Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Milford, Mi. three times a week, at minimum.
What You'll Do
Design and Evolve the Solution Context for the ART / Guidance for Solution Intent:
- Own and understand the solution context, acting as the "Chief Architect" for the functional subsystems of the ART.
- Define the solution context including supported technologies, interfaces, APIs, current and future deployment requirements, functional and non-functional requirements.
- Collaborate with System Engineers, Lead Solution Architects, and others in the decomposition of systems and allocation to subsystems for existing and new features.

Solution Context for the Agile Release Team (ART):
- Provide input on solution deployment to ECUs.
- Offer technical guidance for Solution Intent including Technical Specifications, Interface requirements, Context Diagrams, and Decomposition Diagrams.
Define and Maintain the ART Architectural Runway:
- Define future solution architecture vision in collaboration with the Value Stream Lead Solution Architect.
- Collaborate with internal/external teams to define and build the architectural runway.
Maintain Functional Architecture and MBSE Methods:
- Ensure consistency and alignment of systems/subsystems across all levels of architecture down to the implementation and deployment architecture.
Systems Engineering and Validation:
- Engage in building system-level requirements and validate system performance against these requirements.
- Ensure validation strategies are robust, cost-effective, and in compliance with quality requirements.
- Collaborate with validation engineers to develop and execute system validation plans ensuring system objectives are met.
Support ART Backlog Refinement:
- Collaborate with the Product Management Team to review and update backlog item definitions, develop acceptance criteria and benefit hypotheses, determine technical feasibility and scope estimates.
Serve as Functional Domain Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the ART:
- Provide technical direction and guidance to agile teams throughout all phases of ART Kanban.
Prioritize Innovation:
- Offer technical guidance for the area of expertise, execute Epics, help resolve/close PRTSs, share lessons learned/best practices, and capture IP/ROI's/etc.
Core Responsibilities:
- Lead system specifications, solution definition, technical feasibility analysis, and architecture specification.
- Provide technical guidance for system design and integration, supporting sales presentations, technical solutions discussions, and product demonstrations.
- Develop/approve system architecture requirements, models, and diagrams; spearhead architecture level development and testing.
- Oversee life cycle engineering activities, work with requirements engineers at program initiation, and ensure consistency and traceability of system requirements.
- Develop software for vehicle connectivity and create necessary engineering documentation.
- Support agile development related planning, and work acceptance meetings, drive alignment with other Software System Architects, and define Software Non-Functional Requirements (NFRs).
- Define a high-level architectural design for the software owned by the ART and drive software quality improvements.
- Your daily activities will also align with GM's broader mission and vision, ensuring architectural strategies sync with GM's electrification and innovation goals.
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (Software, Computer, Electronics, Automotive or equivalent).
- 7+ years of experience in automotive system engineering and architecture.
- 5+ years of software development experience in C/C++
- Experience with embedded Real-Time Operating systems, AUTOSAR software constructs and their implementation
- Demonstrated projects in hardware and software system design and real-time embedded software architecture.
- In-depth knowledge of requirements engineering process (FMEA, Preliminary Hazard Analyses, Model Based System Engineering).
- Demonstrated experience leading change, high level of analytical ability, communication, and interpersonal skills.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills)
- Master's degree or PhD (Software, Computer, Electronics, Automotive or equivalent)
- PHEV Experience highly preferred
- 10+ years of relevant experience (Software, Calibration, Controls, Tools Development)
- Understanding of Functional Safety.
- Knowledge of vehicle electrical systems.
- Experience or knowledge of relevant tools (e.g.: MATLAB, Simulink, Vector, Intrepid, Rhapsody, GIT, Gears, Doors, Jira, ADO, RTC, etc.)
- Prior or active experience with agile product development frameworks
- Experience with Vehicle Electrical Architecture's standards (i.e. ISO 14229, Cybersecurity, Ethernet, CAN).
- Experience with instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
