Workplace Classification:

Hybrid : This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the candidate is expected to report to their primary work location three times per week, at minimum, or other frequency dictated by the business.

The Role:

The Manufacturing Controls & Application Solution Integration Engineer is an individual contributor controls engineer; responsible for tasks and work throughout the entire vehicle development lifecycle including requirements definition, systems design and implementation, testing, and problem resolution. We work side-by-side with manufacturing engineering teams to successfully launch new products and support GM IT initiatives to conceive, build, launch, and maintain enterprise-grade applications that manufacture the automobiles of tomorrow. This role requires occasional travel to GM vendor and manufacturing sites while performing work.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):

  • The design and troubleshooting of Programmable Logic Controllers software.
  • Collaborate and document requirements with the GM IT System Analyst to provide and sustain vehicle manufacturing domain expertise.
  • Coordinates and communicates the development of changes to improve conditions for the assembly process.
  • Participates in functional area plant meetings and related activities, to represent engineering and to assist in reaching the plant's performance goals.
  • Develops and monitors planning timetables and projects schedules.
  • Program manufacturing process devices including PLC's and HMI's.
  • Analyzes product, process, and technology to determine the best methods of IT-OT integration technology.
  • Assist in the design and building of tools and equipment or recommend improvements to existing processes .
  • Provide support to other specialists for root cause analysis.
  • Provide technical direction to less experienced controls engineers.

Additional Description

What You'll Need (Required Qualifications):

  • Technical Certificate or Associate Degree
  • 5+ years controls experience in a manufacturing facility/environment
  • Intimate knowledge of automotive tooling and manufacturing assembly processes
  • Experience in PLC and HMI programming, and controls industrial networking using Rockwell and Siemens architecture
  • Ability to implement and troubleshoot electrical controls systems
  • Ability to use computer, interpret blueprints, engineering drawings and learn new systems
  • Strong ability to expertly capture and analyze empirical data
  • Design tests to efficiently find opportunities for design improvements
  • Willing to work extended hours and weekend when needed to support high priority objectives
  • Willing to work in a plant manufacturing environment with 20% travel as needed to US based plants

  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship management skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization as needed

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline
  • GM's Global Common Controls Software (GCCS) certification or demonstrated proficiency
  • Broad industrial controls and automation knowledge as it relates to automotive assembly plant
  • Advanced project management skills
  • Emerging partnership and teamwork skills and ability to learn from and share knowledge with co-workers in a fast-paced environment
  • High level of integrity, ability to deal with ambiguity, take initiative/self-directed
  • Evidence of strong character with integrity, honesty, accountability, and trust
