Software Development Integration Laboratory - Operations Engineer
Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Milford Proving Grounds in Milford, MI, on a full-time basis (5 days each week).
The Role
Software Development Integration Laboratory Engineers are responsible for supporting numerous vehicle ECU components and subsystem benches located throughout the proving grounds across multiple laboratories. The bench test properties are used to develop and test vehicle electronic control unit software features and infrastructure utilizing Hardware in the Loop (HIL) simulation equipment and/or other specialized instrumentation.

What You'll Do
- Resolve issues related to ECU flashing using the ETAS Inca, Lauterbach, and DPS toolchain, and lead issue resolution in VeSCoM software testing
- Verify and validate that the Hardware in Loop (HIL) / Vector benches are operational and configured for propulsion without any hardware or instrumentation issues.
- Address CAN communication errors to ensure the smooth functioning of MAC, Multi CG, and OTA testing.
- Install required software as per user requests and manage license updates for Vector, Intrepid, dSPACE, and DPS.
- Respond to user requests to set up benches according to testing requirements.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams (HIL AE, HIL Simulation, CIE, & IT) and serve as a liaison between customers for unresolved issues.
- Maximize runtime on all assets.
- Assist with key program events for subsystem/system level tests
- Identify the root causes of ECU's and instrumentation issues
- Provide support in analyzing and resolving customer's issues related to bench hardware, instrumentation, and PC's.
- Document work appropriately
- Maintain the infrastructure for bench remote testing, including metrics and scheduling. Store, update, and maintain bench PCs and instrumentation.
- Oversee, maintain, and ensure the calibration of bench equipment, including software licenses for Vector and Lauterbach, while monitoring the health of the laboratories using the provided tools.
- Purchase lab materials as required
- Decommission obsolete and out of production benches, equipment and spare parts as needed
- Ship and receive materials as needed
- Update modules software as required
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science preferred)
- 4+ years of similar automotive engineering experience
- Knowledgeable with dSPACE simulation and CAN communication
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, high-change environment with an initiative demonstrated by reaching beyond assigned work to improve output
- Ability to be hands-on and mobile across the Milford campus
- Knowledgeable in reading and interpreting vehicle electrical architecture schematics
- Strong electrical troubleshooting skills and desire to be hands-on in the development and support of bench test properties
- Basic low-voltage electrical troubleshooting experience (Wiring, multimeter, etc.)
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Understanding of UDS Diagnostics
- Experience with CAN tools and software (Vehicle Spy, CANoe)
- Proficient in Microsoft-based PC's and ethernet networks
- System and Network Administrator experience
