Work Arrangement

Hybrid - This position requires the employee to be onsite 3 days per week at minimum. The primary work location will be the General Motors Global Technical Center in Warren, MI.

The Role

General Motors is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Manager of Industrial Engineering to lead our team in optimizing processes, improving efficiency, and driving cost savings across our manufacturing operations and plan for future programs. This role will be instrumental in developing and implementing strategic initiatives that support our growth objectives and enhance our competitive advantage. The ideal candidate will be a proven leader with a strong background in industrial engineering principles, a data-driven approach, and excellent communication and collaboration skills.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive enterprise-wide industrial engineering strategy aligned with our business objectives.
  • Empower a large team of industrial engineering experts to develop innovative solutions by providing guidance, coaching, and mentorship.
  • Champion design for manufacturing (DFM) principles throughout the product development process, resulting in optimized designs for efficient production.
  • Lead lean manufacturing strategies, utilize six sigma methodologies, to optimize workflows, reduce waste, and improve productivity.
  • Provide visionary leadership by developing and implementing a comprehensive digitization strategy for industrial engineering, leveraging advanced technologies such as automation, AI, machine learning, and simulation to optimize processes enterprise-wide.
  • Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress and measure the success deliverables and celebrate achievements.
  • Align production headcount, targets, and lean metrics across the enterprise.
  • Collaborate and influence with cross-functional teams, including operations, engineering, finance, and supply chain, to ensure seamless implementation of process improvements.
  • Develop and deliver presentations to senior leadership on project updates, performance metrics, and strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies.

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Extensive Experience in Industrial Engineering: 10+ years of progressive experience in industrial engineering, demonstrating a commitment to excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Management Expertise: 5+ years of experience in a management role, effectively leading teams to achieve operational goals and drive performance.
  • Advanced Application of Lean and Six Sigma: 5+ years of in-depth application of lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies, and other innovative process improvement techniques, resulting in enhanced efficiency and productivity.
  • Leadership in Plant Launches: Proven experience in leading plant operations and launch initiatives, ensuring successful project execution and seamless transitions.
  • High-Volume Manufacturing Proficiency: Expertise in high-volume manufacturing environments, with a preference for experience in general assembly processes.
  • Knowledge of Time Measurement Studies: Proficient in STDS and time measurement studies, actively supporting line balance activities to optimize workflow and resource allocation.
  • Understanding of Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP): Comprehensive understanding of GVDP and related manufacturing deliverables, ensuring alignment with global standards and practices.
  • Strong Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Exceptional analytical abilities with a talent for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to drive informed decision-making and strategic initiatives.
