Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Factory Zero on a full-time basis.
Factory ZERO is our first, all-electric automotive assembly plant and the blueprint of General Motors' electric future! We have a corporate vision of "Zero crashes, Zero emissions, Zero congestion." Our most novel products like the Hummer EV and our very first autonomous vehicle, Cruise Origin will be assembled right in this facility. This requires us to employ the most upbeat, capable, and innovative talent to ensure we meet the challenges of developing the new manufacturing processes required to assemble these outstanding products! The Role:
The Paint Process Engineer is part of a team that is responsible for maintaining and improving all Paint Shop processes. This position could work on any of the 3 shifts that are worked in the Paint Shop. All facets of Paint Shop Process Equipment and Control are in scope on your shift - Pretreat, Elpo Deposition, Sealer Application, Topcoat Application and Oven performance. This position is responsible for safety, quality, and responsiveness of these paint processes, as well as meeting all Process Control Plans for specific processes.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
- Follow Process Engineer Standardized work and refine as necessary
- Engage the Paint Production organization to ensure that needs are met, and any new ideas are properly communicated to ensure success
- Escalate items as needed to others for proper resolution
- Develop and train new salaried/hourly team members for work in the Paint Shop as required
- Backfill members of your team when absent
- Ensure that all efforts support GMS (GM Production System) Elements
- Model and foster desired core values and behavior
- Become a specific process owner in Paint, responsible for execution and continuous improvement for that process
Additional Description
Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
- 2 years of experience in manufacturing or process engineering or 1 year of experience in paint engineering
- Knowledge of paint-related technologies and equipment (coatings, corrosion, sealing, etc.)
- Ability to interpret blueprints, engineering drawings and learn new systems
- Knowledge of continuous improvement processes, mechanical and/or electrical concepts, tooling and manufacturing process
- Must be willing to work on rotating shifts (1st, 2nd and 3rd) and overtime including weekends
What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
- Bachelor's degree in chemical or mechanical engineering
- 3+ years of experience in manufacturing or process engineering or paint engineering
- Experience working in an automotive plant environment in the paint department
