Work Arrangement: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren three times per week, at minimum, or other frequency dictated by the business.
The Role
Battery New Products Engineering at General Motors is a rapidly developing automotive technology organization. We're creating cutting-edge battery systems that provide industry-leading performance for future electric vehicles. This team is critical to achieving GM's vision of Zero Emissions, Zero Crashes, and Zero Congestion.
In this role you will play a critical role in the architectural design and integration of high-voltage, lithium-ion battery packs that are planned to go into mass production. This role requires deep cross-functional collaboration with pack sub-system owners responsible for modules, electrical hardware, structures, and thermal systems to evaluate trade-offs between sub-systems and ensure all content is efficiently integrated and able to be assembled in high-volume production.

What You'll Do
- Lead the Advanced Battery Pack Integration Meeting and own the battery pack assembly CAD model
- Support technical trade-off studies within the battery pack to select optimal designs from many alternatives and support the propulsion and vehicle teams with trade-off studies external to the battery pack
- Support the integration and balance of sub-systems to optimize the battery pack design while achieving program requirements and timing
- Support the Vehicle Compartment Integration Teams to ensure appropriate space is allocated to the battery pack to achieve program requirements and CAD models are prepared for vehicle-level CAE analysis.
- Support with the Virtual Design, Development, & Validation (VDDV) Team to utilize virtual tools which assess the performance of battery pack designs against program requirements.
- During the Balance Architecture development phase, deliver a battery pack design solution with supporting analyses to confirm performance status vs requirements while meeting packaging constraints.
- After the Balance Architecture development phase, provide consulting support to the Battery Execution Teams as the battery pack is sourced and launched into production.
- Continuously benchmark automotive and other industries to identify and implement innovative technologies for electric vehicles.
- Protect intellectual property (IP) by inventing and supporting inventors on the team to submit Records of Invention (ROI).

Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- 5 years of related experience
- Experience designing and managing components and assemblies with CAD Software (Unigraphics NX and Teamcenter preferred)
- Evidence of exceptional ability to lead complex technical projects with cross-functional teams
- Demonstrated ability to take ambiguous problems and define a tangible approach to identify optimal solutions
- Demonstrated ability to make technical decisions guided by engineering first-principles
- Demonstrated ability of applying creativity to solve challenges
- 2+ years of experience in product design
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Associates or Bachelors degree
- 2+ years of experience in battery pack design or electrified propulsion systems
- Experience designing mechanical, thermal, electrical, and fluid systems
- Hands-on experience with high voltage battery systems
