Work Arrangement:

Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Mountain View Technical Center three times per week, at minimum.

The Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) team is at the forefront of developing cutting-edge technologies that enhance vehicle safety, performance, and autonomy. We specialize in designing, testing, and deploying intelligent systems that provide critical assistance to drivers, such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, automated braking, and collision avoidance. Our team works on a wide range of systems, integrating data from sensors like lidar, radar, and cameras to create robust, real-time solutions for autonomous navigation and decision-making.

As part of the ADAS team, you will collaborate with experts in machine learning, control systems, sensor fusion, and data science to develop advanced algorithms for vehicle autonomy. We focus on using both model-based and data-driven approaches to optimize the performance of ADAS functionalities, ensuring safety, reliability, and scalability across diverse driving environments. We emphasize real-time control solutions, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, and simulation to evaluate and refine the effectiveness of our systems.

Our multidisciplinary team fosters a collaborative environment where cutting-edge research is applied to real-world challenges in the automotive sector. We leverage the latest advancements in machine learning, data science, and control theory to push the boundaries of what's possible in autonomous vehicle technologies. What You'll Do:

We are seeking a Software Engineering Intern with a strong focus on data analysis, data engineering, and machine learning (ML) to join our innovative ADAS Software Engineering team. In this role, you will apply data engineering workflows, large-scale data analysis, and data visualization techniques to benchmark and assess the performance of various ADAS features. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand ADAS features, define key metrics, and create dashboards that monitor their usage, performance, and failure modes, providing valuable insights to guide product development. The ideal candidate is currently pursuing a BS or MS in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Data Science, or a related field, and is passionate about using their expertise to derive insights from large-scale data.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Feature development and Product teams to understand the workflows of existing and upcoming ADAS features
  • Work closely with teams in ADAS Engineering, Product, Data Engineering, and Data Science to define relevant metrics, analyze data on usage, performance, and failure modes, and establish dashboards and workflows for monitoring
  • Develop problem statements and prototype solutions based on product requirements, iterating and refining designs based on stakeholder feedback
  • Communicate analysis, status updates, results, and actionable recommendations effectively to both engineering and product teams
  • Document methodologies, experimental results, and key insights to support knowledge sharing and collaboration within the team

Additional Description

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a BS or MS in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Data Science, or a related field
  • Must be graduating between December 2025 and December 2027
  • Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week during the summer months

What will give you a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or MATLAB, with experience using data science and machine learning libraries/frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn)
  • Practical experience in exploring high-volume, high-dimensionality data from varying sources using SQL, PySpark, Pandas
  • Practical experience in analytical tools and languages for statistical analysis and machine learning (e.g., Sci-Kit Learn, Spark)
  • Practical experience in cloud-based data science platforms (e.g., Databricks, Azure)
  • Practical experience in data management and processing using platforms like Postgres or Databricks
  • Practical experience in data visualization tools such as Kibana, Power BI, or Looker
  • A passion for improving tooling and workflows for increased efficiency, and a proactive approach to evaluating and adopting new tools and frameworks.
  • A highly collaborative mindset, with the ability to work effectively in ambiguous situations and a commitment to continuous learning
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document findings, create visualizations, and present results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Start dates for this internship role are May & June of 2025.

Compensation:

• The monthly salary range for this role is $4,400-$6,800, dependent upon class status and degree

• GM will provide a one-time lump sum taxable stipend payment to eligible students selected for the 2025 Student Program
