The Product Safety Investigator for Flight Safety, Commercial Engines will act as the primary contact between the Flight Safety Office, the commercial product lines and the investigation agencies. Product Safety Engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on the safe and continued operation of the GE Aerospace products. As part of the GE Aerospace Safety Management System (SMS), the Product Safety Investigator is responsible for implementing and enhancement of safety policy and procedures, supporting Product line safety-related investigation efforts and promoting a safety culture. This position reports to the Commercial Product Flight Safety Subsection Manager.

Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Capable of handling sensitive issues associated with active field investigations.
- Promote Flight Safety & Reliability improvements for new aircraft engine product designs within technical and program requirements.
- Serve as GE Aerospace flight safety point of contact for safety investigations by governmental agencies and regulators ensuring the safe operation of the fleet.
- Identify risks and make recommendations to reduce future risks.
- Capable of supporting rare but immediate travel to support active investigations, domestic and international.
- Collect and create records of the evidence and facts associated with accidents, incidents or field events. Issue reports, analyze safety issues, and make recommendations to the program line.
- Represent the Flight Safety Office in appropriate program meetings to ensure compliance to the policies and procedures set in place. Promote a safety culture within the enterprise.
- Identify safety concerns at the program level and proactively communicate across programs and Design Boards, as appropriate, to ensure lessons learned are read across to other potentially affected products.
- Document best practices, procedures and lessons learned in Standard Work to ensure proper flowdown to other team members.
- Support safety related efforts to improve positive safety culture, concern disposition and SMS performance.
- Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience. Explains information; developing skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within field. Conveys performance expectations and holds team accountable.
- May lead functional teams or projects with minimal resource requirements, and/or complexity. Communicates difficult concepts and may influence others' options on topics.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in technology, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or, Computer Science. Or certification degree with experience (A&P mechanic or Pilot Certification)
- 5 additional years of experience in the aerospace industry dealing with aircraft maintenance, operations or investigations.
Desired Characteristics
- Effective project management ability. Capable of holding others accountable to the program deliverables.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, this role requires interfacing with senior management, airframer, engine partners and external regulators. Ability to represent GE Aviation at customer reviews and system safety groups to address propulsion system safety issues.
- Problem solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Knowledge of engine turbine architecture, mechanical design and assembly procedures.
- Familiarity with GE's product lines and their joint venture partners.
- Ability to travel globally.
- Experience accident/incident record maintenance, and accident incident investigation.
- Should be willing to become an accident investigator.
- Familiarity with and ability to use personal protection equipment (PPE) as required for various investigation environments.
