Job Description Summary
The Lead Systems Engineer role is accountable for functional, business, and broad company objectives. In this role, you will leverage your Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) experience to help GE's Common Core Systems team develop and manage technical objectives for multiple aircraft platforms, with an initial focus on the Boeing 777 aircraft.
Systems engineering is a cross-functional discipline centered on approach, mindset, and process. All activities will consider both the business and the technical needs of the customer with the goal of providing a safe and quality product that meets or exceeds the customer's expectations. The Systems Engineering discipline executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems consisting of the identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs, and verification that ensure a properly designed solution is integrated and executed from concept to production to operations.

This role's primary responsibility will be to contribute to project success by meeting your commitments on time and on/under budget per the project schedule. This position has autonomy with support with from team members, project leadership, and subject matter experts to provide guidance and support in alignment with key project milestones and customer deliverables.
Location Preference: Candidate is preferred to be located near the greater Grand Rapids, MI or Clearwater, FL areas with preference for the Grand Rapids, MI area.
Corporate Relocation Package is available.
Where would I work? Hybrid: 3 days/week on-site (Tuesdays - Thursdays). Optional remote: Mondays and Fridays.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
This position will be responsible for leading, guiding and contributing to the systems engineering efforts across GE's Common Core Systems. This role has accountability for assigned systems engineering duties for the IMA product line. This role provides technical leadership, coaching and assistance to the project teams to insure they deliver on cost, quality, schedule, and technical goals.
This position has the following essential responsibilities:
- Manage the Systems Engineering Lifecycle for IMA computing products/technologies.
- Develop and execute systems development and verification plans in accordance with GE Aviation processes.
- Assist Engineering, Sales, Marketing, and Business Leaders in new pursuits.
- Develop architecture and trade studies as needed to comply with customer requirements.
- Cross train Systems Engineers in the systems engineering process.
- Drive and support engineering reuse within the Computing Systems product line.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to the teams running projects within the product line. This includes supporting project planning, conducting reviews, metrics development/tracking, forecasting, development processes, and risk and opportunity management.
- Ensure timely delivery of systems requirements, integrated validation/verification activities, and issue resolution.
- Support the startup of new projects to insure they are well planned in accordance with the product roadmap, the overall product line strategy and engineering process requirements.
- Lead/manage interdisciplinary collaboration with software, hardware, test, safety, maintainability, reliability, and certification teams.
- Escalate issues that need additional engineering or business leadership assistance in a timely manner.
- Use best judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology, or engineering.
- Takes new perspective on existing solutions.
- Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations.
- Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.
- Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.
- May lead small projects with moderate risks and resource requirements.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or other technical / science discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years hands-on design, implementation, integration, testing, verification and experience involving; Avionics Engineering Systems, Hardware / Software Engineering, and/or Electrical Design.
- This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. Government contract restrictions and this posting is only for U.S. Citizens. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.
Desired Characteristics:
- Prior experience managing or designing within an Avionics Design Assurance Level A or B Environment.
- Experience with DO-297, DO-178, DO-254 and/or DO-330 process assurance experience.
- Prior experience working on A653 partition-based operating system.
- Familiarity with networking products or data concentrator systems.
- Familiarity with interfaces including but not limited to analog, discrete, RS-232/422/485, ARINC 429/664/825.
- Experience with engineering processes including requirements definition, requirements allocation, requirements validation, requirements verification, integration, embedded software, electronic systems, FAA/EASA/NAA certification, and system safety.
- Able to communicate directly with senior leadership inside and outside the company.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams in development, integration, validation and verification of systems.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.

- Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.
