Job Description Summary
This posting is for a Thermal Systems Design Engineer in hot-section component cooling designs within the Edison Works (EW) Engineering. The primary job function for this position is in establishing aero thermal design requirements with stakeholders and developing component cooling designs and system/subsystem thermal designs to meet those technical and program requirements. The role requires knowledge in the fundamentals of heat transfer and compressible flows and knowledge of turbine engine design and operation. Additionally, the role requires communicating processes, methods, analysis results and technical challenges to product team members.

- Execute, with guidance from senior engineering resources, the design and analysis of assigned cooled components using engineering principles and internal practices and program / product requirements
- Perform thermal analysis using finite element analysis (FEA) and/or computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis in support of new engine designs and fielded products.
- Perform trade studies to define and optimize system design within constraints
- Build and demonstrate knowledge of relevant physics and how design components or subsystems interact and integrate into the larger system or product
- Ensure secondary flow system definition accurately represents component characteristics
- Understand system design margin requirements
- Understand system risk and identifies potential abatements
- Ensure overall system balances design, cost, lifecycle support and customer requirements
- Contribute to and present at technical and design reviews
- Document and communicate results of technical data generated
- Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university or college
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in disciplinary engineering and science
- Must be a US citizen and hold or be able to obtain a US security clearance
