About the Role
The Sr. Director of Customer Data Engineering will define key data strategies that enable Gap Inc to better manage our customer data with a goal to provide a comprehensive view of the customer, improved business decision making through quicker insights and adherence to compliance and privacy needs. This role will report into the VP of Data Intelligence and will be responsible for end-to-end enterprise customer data with ownership of the customer360 view, the business data layer, customer insights and reporting delivery, working in partnership with customer and marketing data science, data product management and data governance teams.
This is an onsite role that can sit in Dallas, TX or San Francisco, CA.
What You'll Do
- Partner across all functions utilizing customer data using to ensure critical business partner needs are translated into data strategy and requirements, enabling prioritized business capabilities. These approaches should maximize value generation and efficiency across Gap Inc.
- Maximize deployment of Enterprise ready data products and strategies to power customer data driven AI & Gen AI capabilities across the organization.
- Act as the business/system owner for customer data tools, championing the data change control process, providing updated data process or tool training, and participating in any data audits.
- Participate as a member of the Customer Data Governance Council.
- Lead the development of good data principles, standards, and practices for enterprise data Engineering.
- Defines processes for active stewardship of data, including active management of metadata and oversight of data processes and flows.
- Monitor spend against the approved budget, identify variances, and take corrective action as needed.
- Co-owner of the data warehouse and business intelligence investment strategy.
- Build and maintain a strong technical team through effective recruiting, training, coaching, team building, and succession planning.
Who You Are
- Relevant professional experience in technology, with a concentration in Data Management required.
- Strong experience in managing customer data from sourcing to activation.
- Prior experience in laying out the strategy and making technical decisions in the field of data engineering and data platforms.
- Experience with cloud-based platforms like Azure/GCP/AWS specializing in the related data stack withinincluding consumption patterns like data products, data marts, universal semantic layers.
- Previous experience leading, developing, and implementing global data capabilities.
- Proven ability to influence others at higher levels in the organization and across functions.
- Effective problem-solving and analytical skills to evaluate and resolve complex operational issues.
- Experience working across global teams spanning multiple time zones and geographies.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with various functional partners to probe/ask questions, gather required information for analyses, and participate as a value-added cross-functional partner.
- Experience operating in a fast-paced environment driven by senior leadership requests and evolving business needs.
- Ability to manage workload with limited guidance; effective managing to expectations and ability to scope/prioritize work with relatively high independence.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to express complex business concepts in non-technical terms.
- Proven experience leading and/or managing people.
- Demonstrated learning agility.
