JOB DESCRIPTION

Ford's Advanced EV development team is actively being created. We have an opening on the embedded firmware engineering team to develop new products using image processing and streaming. This position will evaluate prototypes of new concepts, and transition design concepts to robust production firmware. Candidates should be comfortable both in rapid prototyping efforts and bringing products to production by working with cross functional partners to create innovative products that meet Ford's high standards for functionality and performance.

• Work cross functionally with the Electrical Engineering team selecting components for image processing

• Design, develop, and implement embedded firmware for new embedded camera product concepts, ensuring optimal functionality and performance.

• Collaborate with hardware engineers and product designers to evaluate prototype hardware and firmware interactions.

• Develop production-ready firmware by incorporating feedback from testing, adhering to coding standards, and implementing best practices.

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex firmware issues in both prototype and production stages.

• Document firmware design and changes comprehensively to ensure knowledge transfer and maintainability.

• Participate in code reviews and provide guidance to junior firmware engineers.

• Work closely with the quality assurance team to define testing strategies and ensure that firmware meets all required specifications and regulatory standards.

• Assist in the transition from prototype to production, ensuring a smooth hand-off to manufacturing.

• Provide post-production support, including firmware updates and troubleshooting as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum requirements we seek:

As part of this team, you will be responsible for developing product layouts and technology concepts, particularly in the areas of electronics systems. This includes development of early prototypes and new technologies leading into scalable mass production.

• Bachelor's or Mater's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related experience.

• Experience with video streaming in an embedded environment

• Experience selecting image capture and processing stacks

• Camera, ISP, and microcontroller selection

• Familiarity with video streaming protocols

• Familiarity with AI image recognition HW and SW requirements

• Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++.

• Experience with microcontroller architectures, peripheral interfaces (MIPI, SPI, I2C, UART, etc.), and hardware communication protocols (CAN, Ethernet, USB).

• Experience with automotive ethernet protocol 10Base-t etc.

• Experience with IoT devices and connectivity technologies (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Matter, etc.).

• Experience with OTA updateable components, experience with bootloaders, UDS etc.

• Familiarity with build system integration.

• Strong understanding of electronics and the ability to read schematics and component datasheets.

• Experience with firmware version control (Git) and bug tracking systems (Jira, Confluence).

• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and debug complex systems
