We are seeking an experienced and strategic leader to report to the Chief Operational and Technology Risk Officer (COTRO). This role is critical in establishing and maintaining a robust operational risk framework, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and corporate objectives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in operational risk management, governance practices, and data-driven reporting. This position requires exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and collaboration skills to support risk management efforts across the company.

The Sr. Director Operational Risk Governance, Reporting, & Business Support is responsible for establishing the protocols associated with managing the policies and standards relative to enterprise-level operational risk expections, inclusive of reconciliation to other risk related areas including enterprise risk management. This leader will set the cadence and expectations for the governance of risks related to the board and management level committees' oversight of operational risk. The Sr. Director is responsible for the operational risk appetite statements, metrics, and quarterly reporting to support risk transparency and escalations, as necessary for excellent standards of governance practices. The leader will ensure alignment between risk appetite and strategic goals. This person will collaborate with stakeholders to review and adjust risk appetite as needed, ensuring responsiveness to evolving conditions.

The Sr. Director will oversee the design and delivery of comprehensive risk reports, dashboards, and analytics for senior leadership and board-level reporting. They will enhance reporting capabilities to provide actionable insights into risk exposure, emerging risks, and key trends. This role ensures data accuracy, consistency, and transparency in all risk-related reporting and communications.

Additionally, the leader will have responsibility for the business management of the function, including those associated with financial planning, budget oversight, resource planning, contracts, third parties, and process improvement. This role fosters a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team. Acts as a liaison between the operational risk management team and other departments, ensuring alignment and effective communication across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Governance
    • Develop, implement, and maintain an effective operational risk governance framework that aligns with regulatory and industry standards.
    • Lead the establishment and monitoring of risk governance processes, ensuring consistent risk management practices.
    • Directs and oversees the development and maintenance of policies, standards and procedures which compose the operational risk framework.
    • Establishes the management routines associated with effective committee management and outcomes.
  • Risk Appetite and Framework
    • Maintain the management processes to support the ongoing reporting of and efficacy of the organization's operational risk appetite.
    • Ensure alignment between risk appetite and strategic goals, fostering a balanced approach to risk taking.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to review and adjust risk appetite as needed, ensuring responsiveness to evolving internal and external conditions.
  • Risk Reporting
    • Oversee the design and delivery of comprehensive risk reports, dashboards, and analytics for senior leadership and board-level reporting.
    • Enhance reporting capabilities to provide actionable insights into risk exposure, emerging risks, and key trends.
    • Establish and manage the processes to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and transparency in all risk-related reporting and communications.
  • Business Management
    • Lead business management activities for the Operational Risk Management organization, including budget oversight, resource planning, and process improvement.
    • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the organization.
    • Act as a liaison between the Operational Risk Management organization and other departments, ensuring alignment and effective communication across the organization.
  • Manages the performance, training, and evaluation of assigned staff. Maximizes department achievements by providing professional development.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 10 years of experience in Operational Risk Management, Governance or related role in Financial Services OR High School Diploma or GED and 14 years of experience in Operational Risk Management, Governance or related role in Financial Services
  • In-depth knowledge of risk management frameworks, risk appetite methodologies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven experience in risk reporting and analytics, with strong data interpretation and communication skills.
  • Exceptional leadership, collaboration, and strategic thinking abilities.
  • Strong understanding of the financial services industry, operational processes, and risk mitigation techniques.
Preferred Education: Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, Master's degree preferred

The base pay for this position is generally between $235,000 and $300,000. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
