Overview

First Citizens Bank offers an exciting summer internship program that provides development opportunities and hands on work experience while creating a talent pipeline for the Bank. Our interns will apply classroom knowledge in a corporate environment while making a positive impact across the organization and the communities we serve. The CRA Compliance Team is responsible for 2nd line of defense oversight for the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) and Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA), providing guidance on these complex regulations to ensure strategy and implementation meet the requirements.

In 2025, the bank will be implementing two new regulations, the CRA New Rule and Dodd Frank Rule 1071 on Small Business Data Collection. In turn, the Compliance team will be developing and executing a monitoring program that reports on potential risk factors and data gaps on the new regulations.

Below are some skillsets a student intern must possess to be successful this coming summer:
  • A student intern who has both data analysis/management experience and who can and develop repeatable steps for monitoring, developing procedures in MS Word
  • Someone who is comfortable collaborating and has excellent critical thinking skills and the ability to review systems and documentation to validate data integrity
  • One who possesses strong knowledge of MS Word in order to support compliance in developing monitoring procedures, and a proficiency in Excel/analytics, with the ability to manipulate large data sets for analysis
  • A student with excellent verbal and written skills, who is comfortable with presentations and communicating research findings to all levels of personnel

  • Responsibilities

    In this role, you will:

    Be part of a dynamic team with interesting projects.

    Accountabilities can and may include areas such as research, analytics, projects, strategy, process review and improvement, as well as technology enhancements and support.

    Attend professional development sessions, informational sessions, networking and community service events.

    Have a dedicated manager and program manager to help you navigate the bank and the internship program.

    Be assigned a project, designed to improve a specific process or solve a problem that you will present at the close of the internship.

    Prepare a wrap-up presentation to be shared with the division leader and other key stakeholders in the company to outline your accomplishments and experience during the internship

    Internship dates: 5/28/2025 - 8/01/2025

    Qualifications

    Required qualifications:

    High School Diploma or GED and 1 year of experience

    Currently enrolled at an accredited collegiate institution (during the time of the summer program)

    Ability to work 40 hours per week during the duration of the program

    Preferred qualifications:

    3.0 minimum GPA

    Strong desire to learn and grow

    Currently pursing a Bachelors or Masters degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Mathematics, Analytics, Economics, Political Science, Marketing, or other applicable degree

    Possess a positive attitude, naturally curious and enjoys collaborating with others

    Strong verbal and written communication skills

    Critical and creative thinking skills

    Ability to multitask

    Positive, 'can do', growth mindset

    Strong MS Office skills, particular emphasis on Excel and PowerPoint

    Ability to adapt and adjust priorities based on business needs

    Ability to take direction and absorb information quickly
