Investment Associate - Venture Capital Investment Team

About the Role

The Investment Associate will join Devonshire's growing Venture Capital investment team. Devonshire's Venture Capital platform invests in technology and life sciences companies in the United States, Europe and Asia.

The team is seeking a highly analytical and proactive Investment Associate to support portfolio oversight, the firm's reporting processes, and the assessments of new investment opportunities. The ideal candidate thrives in a lean, collaborative environment and is eager to learn. Past investment or consulting experience in the venture capital industry or target sectors is preferred, but not required.

The Value You Deliver

Portfolio Management and Reporting

  • Closely monitor the performance of the existing venture capital portfolio, including investments and strategic partnerships; conduct in-depth analysis to evaluate investment performance against established goals and expectations
  • Identify risks and opportunities within the portfolio and recommend appropriate actions to the investment team
  • Maintain detailed financial models and cash flow projections for the portfolio
  • Prepare comprehensive reports, dashboards, and presentations to update the investment team and key stakeholders on portfolio activity and developments
  • Collaborate with colleagues internally in accounting, financial reporting, legal, compliance, and human resources on various oversight activities

Industry Trend Analysis

  • Closely monitor emerging trends, technologies, and market developments relevant to the firm's Venture Capital portfolio and target industries
  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis to identify promising areas for investment
  • Synthesize findings and present insights to the investment team to inform the organization's Venture Capital strategy

New Investments

  • Support the investment team in their sourcing, tracking, and evaluation of new investment opportunities
  • Draft investment presentations and memos and participate in investment approval process

The Expertise You Have

  • 2-4 years of experience in investment management, strategic finance (private equity, investment banking, corporate development), or consulting
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with demonstrated ability to think strategically
  • Exceptional modeling capabilities and experience drafting formal presentations and memos (proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Resourceful, collaborative, confident, and comfortable with ambiguity
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience in the venture capital industry, or target sectors, is a plus but not a requirement
  • Desire to live and work in Boston; willingness to travel 10-20% of time to attend investor meetings, industry conferences, and other sourcing opportunities
  • BA/BS degree
