Position Description:

Delivers technological solutions using Agile methodology and modern software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes. Works with complex data environments and associated technology and analytics infrastructure needed to support these environments. Focuses on hands-on development and delivery, combined with both strong technical and influencing skills, as well as participation in architecture, design, analysis, and evangelizing activities. Draws on in-depth knowledge of data onboarding and quality best practices and the drive to achieve excellence in team building, operations, tooling, and automation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Designs and implements processes and tools for data onboarding and quality.

  • Produces tools that automate data quality and discover faults.


  • Translates and incorporates business vision and strategy to architectural strategy recommendations at the functional level.


  • Participates in high-level, cross- functional architecture design teams.


  • Identifies and consults with internal and external technical resources to produce cross-company strategic designs.


  • Consults on development and delivery of major technology initiatives for the business unit.


  • Consults on deployment of major project deliverables.


  • Consults on the documentation of major technology application.


  • Oversees the technical implementation of cross-divisional or company architectural components.


  • Initiates and drives project or strategy discussions with users or external groups to resolve issues.


  • Sets vision, goals, and direction of team/organization.


  • Plans and leads organization-wide initiatives.


  • Provides leadership, technical supervision, and expertise to multiple teams in broad technical areas on complex organization-wide projects.


  • Advises senior management on technical strategy.


  • Researches and recommends new technologies.


  • Works across groups to identify opportunities for organization-wide technology initiatives.


  • Regularly provides guidance, training, and coaching to other team members for performance and career development.


  • Promotes a team culture of accountability and continuous improvement and removing drag forces to enable team success.


  • Identifies and plans for future resource needs.


  • Determines technical approaches at a strategic level for the business unit.


  • Leads and manages complex data initiatives or projects.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and six (6) years of experience as a Director, Data Engineering (or closely related occupation) architecting, developing, and maintaining a high quality data platform for quantitative investment analysis.

Or, alternatively, Master's degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and four (4) years of experience as a Director, Data Engineering (or closely related occupation) architecting, developing, and maintaining a high quality data platform for quantitative investment analysis.

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

  • Demonstrated Expertise ("DE") delivering time-to-market solutions using rapid application development techniques using Snowflake, Oracle, Netezza and Access databases in Python and PL/SQL.


  • DE designing complex dimensional models and Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) to create conceptual, logical, and physical models/architecture according to standards, taxonomy, and best practices, using data modeling tools.


  • DE performing data analysis and data quality - querying large data sets to detect patterns, analyze trends, and provide insights and recommendations to influence future designs and requirements - using Python, R, SQL, and Jupyter Notebooks; and automating the data quality test cases for maintaining the high-quality data.


  • DE designing data lake solutions for quantitative research platforms for Asset Management, using SAP Power Designer, Microsoft Visio, and Erwin; and performance tuning in snowflake.
