Network Service Engineer III

Job Summary

Responsible for: network design and planning, capacity management, vendor evaluation, activation and deactivation of customer services, troubleshooting and fault resolution of reported and detected faults, performing effective maintenance to the equipment to prevent faults from occurring, procurement and installation of equipment for expansion and new services.

Responsibilities

Network Operations & Management

Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution

  • Diagnose and resolve complex network issues related to routing, switching, VPNs, and other network services.
  • Utilize network diagnostic tools (e.g., Wireshark, traceroute, ping, NetFlow) to identify and resolve connectivity and performance problems.
  • Perform timely and accurate troubleshooting of network outages and degradations to restore services promptly.
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation of network configurations, topologies, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Lead and participate in incident response activities, ensuring effective communication and coordination during network incidents.
  • Develop and implement incident response plans and playbooks to improve response times and resolution effectiveness.
  • Analyze incident trends and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Serve as a key liaison between Network Engineering, NOC, and other technical teams to facilitate effective communication and collaboration.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and optimize network solutions that meet business requirements.

NetDevOps & Automation

DevOps Integration

  • Develop, maintain, and optimize automation scripts using Python, Bash, or other relevant languages to automate troubleshooting and routing network operations.
  • Assess and evaluate network operations tools to identify opportunities for automation and operational efficiency.
  • Implement solutions that reduce manual interventions and streamline operations, enhancing overall network performance.

Monitoring & Continuous Improvement

  • Implement and maintain monitoring solutions to track performance, availability, and security across various systems.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve NetDevOps practices to enhance operational efficiency and reduce manual interventions.

AI & Machine Learning Integration

  • Explore and integrate AI and machine learning solutions to enhance network monitoring, predictive maintenance, and anomaly detection.
  • Stay abreast of advancements in Gen AI and Large Language Models (LLMs) to drive innovation and operational efficiency.

Security & Compliance

  • Understand and apply general network and data security best practices to ensure the protection of sensitive information.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices related to network security and data protection.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and propose enhancements to existing infrastructure and processes.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices to maintain a competitive edge.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven years of experience in network engineering within a service provider or cloud interconnect environment.
  • Proven experience in designing, implementing, and managing large-scale network infrastructures.
  • Demonstrated expertise in troubleshooting complex network issues in high-availability environments.

Technical Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of network protocols and technologies including MPLS, BGP, EVPN, VxLAN, DNS, and Internet Exchange.
  • Proficiency with network operating systems and hardware, particularly Cisco (IOS, IOS XR, Nexus) and Linux (Red Hat, Ubuntu).
  • Experience with Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and software-defined networking (SDN) concepts.
  • Understanding of cloud interconnects and hybrid/multi-cloud networking principles.
  • Strong scripting skills in Python and Bash for automation purposes.
  • Familiarity with web frameworks (e.g., Flask, Django) for developing integration tools and services.
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of DevOps tools and practices, including CI/CD pipelines.
  • Understanding of AI and machine learning applications in network management and optimization.
  • Proficient in using network monitoring and diagnostic tools such as Wireshark, traceroute, ping, NetFlow, etc.
  • Experience with performance tuning and capacity planning to ensure optimal network performance.
  • Knowledge of general security frameworks and best practices in network and data security.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong project management abilities with the capacity to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, in English.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse, cross-functional team environment.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy.

Certifications

  • JNCIP-SP or Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or higher.
  • ITIL v4 certification.
