Summary:
Interactive content (e.g., multi-perspective video) allows the viewer to actively engage with the content, providing an immersive and more personalized experience. However, to enable seamless interactivity, transmission of additional content components is required. This leads to an increase in the bandwidth requirements. Transport protocols such as TCP and UDP are not designed to optimally delivery these emerging content experiences. In recent years, QUIC was proposed as a new generation transport protocol, and its features make QUIC an attractive alternative for emerging interactive content delivery scenarios.
This project hypothesizes that emerging networking protocols such as HTTP3 over QUIC and Media over QUIC Transport (MoQT) could provide an efficient way for streaming interactive media. To this extend, the goal of this internship is to design and implement an algorithm that facilitates interactive content delivery. The student will be expected to perform a literature study investigating the applicability of relevant existing solutions (involving QUIC) and provide a proof-of-concept implementation based on the selected delivery solution.
Qualifications:
- Pursuing a Masters/Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Telecommunication, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field,
- Interest in network protocols,
- Experience with programming (e.g., Python and Rust).
