Senior Storage Systems Engineer II

DigitalOcean’s Storage Systems Team is responsible for the design, performance, durability, and efficiency of DigitalOcean’s persistent data stores. This role reports to the Storage Systems team Engineering Manager.

Our Stack: Go, C/C++, Linux, Ceph, libvirt, KVM, QEMU

Our Tools: AWX/Ansible, Chef, Elasticsearch, Git, Github Actions, GSuite, Jira, K8s, Slack, Victoria Metrics

Our Team: The person filling this position will report to the Sr. Manager of the Storage Systems team. Members of Storage Systems have a combination of responsibilities for the persistence software of DigitalOcean’s storage products as well as the lifecycle of hardware nodes inclusive of evaluation, certification, provisioning, and ongoing systems management.

  • Leveraging your 7+ years of experience towards the research, architecture, design, and development of class leading disaggregated block storage for DigitalOcean’s compute products.  
  • Help design and lead a multi-year technical roadmap balancing short and long-term investments.  
  • Collaborate with a motivated team of peers through key technical decision making. Author and review technical designs. 
  • 5-20% of your time contributing to free/open source software communities.  
  • Solving interesting problems in a technically rewarding fast paced environment.

What You’ll Add to DigitalOcean:

  • Your background and experience in distributed storage systems, especially in large scale SaaS or IaaS environments.  
  • Your exceptional collaboration and communication skills working in tandem with orchestration, compute, and product teams to deliver a solution our customers are thrilled about.  
  • Provide guidance on continuously improving our storage services using real world usage data.  
  • A product mindset that balances an exceptional customer storage experience with sustainable technology in the back end.  
  • Sharing responsibility for maintaining the availability and performance of existing storage products. Suggest and implement ways to improve our operability and scale. Previous Ceph or other open source storage system experience is a bonus.

  • We reward our employees. The salary range for this position is between $160,000.00 - $185,000.00 based on market data, relevant years of experience, and skills. You may qualify for a bonus in addition to base salary; bonus amounts are determined based on company and individual performance. We also provide equity compensation to eligible employees, including equity grants upon hire and the option to participate in our Employee Stock Purchase Program.
