We are looking for a Senior Solutions Architect II (Database Migrations Specialist) who is passionate about solving complex cloud infrastructure challenges for our customers.



As a Senior Solutions Architect II specializing in Database & Cloud Migrations, you will be a hands-on technical leader responsible for guiding customers through complex Database migration projects. Leveraging deep expertise in migrations and the Cloud ecosystem, you will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and optimizing cloud-native solutions for customers. Collaborating closely with customer success teams, engineering, and other stakeholders, your efforts will directly contribute to workload expansion, customer retention, and the adoption of modern cloud practices.

What You’ll Do:
  • Lead hands-on database migration projects, ensuring smooth transitions of workloads across MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, and MongoDB. 
  • Apply deep expertise in at least two of the following technologies: MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, MongoDB, Kafka, and OpenSearch.
  • Analyze customers’ existing infrastructure and applications to design robust migration strategies.
  • Collaborate on migrations involving complementary technologies like Kafka (event streaming) and OpenSearch (search and analytics), emphasizing their integration with database systems.
  • Analyze customers' existing database environments and dependencies to design resilient, efficient migration strategies.
  • Implement tailored migration architectures, ensuring high performance, reliability, and minimal downtime.
  • Build detailed infrastructure diagrams and explain architectural decisions clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of database-specific requirements, including schema design, replication, performance optimization, and cloud-native compatibility.
  • Partner with Technical Customer Success Managers and Account Managers to identify customer needs, define success plans, and ensure smooth migrations.
  • Conduct hands-on technical workshops, proof of concepts, and demonstrations showcasing Kubernetes migration processes and cloud-native solutions.
  • Offer tailored onboarding and migration assistance to guide customers through technical blockers and adoption challenges.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, helping customers navigate technical complexities and adopt Database best practices.
  • Prepare and document Database best practices to be used by the customers during and post-migration.
  • Collaborate with engineering and support teams to resolve technical escalations during migrations.
  • Advocate for customer feedback to inform the development of new Database-related features and platform enhancements.


What You’ll Add to DigitalOcean:

  • Extensive professional experience in cloud infrastructure, Database, and migration projects, or equivalent education.
  • Demonstrated professional experience leading complex database migration projects across technologies such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, MongoDB, Kafka (event streaming), and OpenSearch (analytics and search).
  • Strong foundational knowledge of Linux, distributed systems, and their application in cloud environments.
  • In-depth understanding of database architecture, including schema design, replication, sharding, backup and restore processes, and performance tuning for both SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Prior experience in a pre-sales, technical consulting, or customer-facing role, with a focus on solving complex technical challenges.
  • Passionate about delivering exceptional customer experiences and fostering customer success.
  • Demonstrated track record of developing effective technical solutions to address customer business challenges.
  • Software engineering experience 7 years+
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Highly motivated, with a proactive mindset and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proven ability to use programming and scripting languages to automate database migrations, configurations, and performance optimizations.
  • Strong experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools like Terraform, Helm, or Ansible, and expertise in automating complex database deployment and migration workflows.

  • We reward our employees. The salary range for this position is between $128,300.00 - $192,400.00 based on market data, relevant years of experience, and skills. You may qualify for a bonus in addition to base salary; bonus amounts are determined based on company and individual performance. We also provide equity compensation to eligible employees, including equity grants upon hire and the option to participate in our Employee Stock Purchase Program.
