The Role

The HR Director role sits at the heart of this, ensuring we have the right conditions in place to develop and release the potential of our talent; our leaders and their teams. The role is to partner with the business, to challenge and support in equal measure; to help strategically shape the future organisation to deliver the biggest possible performance outcomes at optimal cost and in the most efficient and effective way, externally benchmarking to ensure we deliver on our ambition to be No. 1 Consumer Goods Company. The HRD's remit covers the Japan market partnering effectively with the Japan Leadership Team and the broader stakeholders in Asia-Pacific to drive the short and long-term growth agenda, to delivering sustainable commercial success of the Japan business and drive a progressive workplace for the future. The HRD will also support delivery of Asia-Pacific Regional initiatives when required.
The role will be accountable for leading the people agenda to drive and being a brilliant performance partner to enable accelerated growth in line with our ambition for the Japan market. The HRD is accountable for creating the people strategy for the business, enabling growth and performance through our HR Strategic priorities of Talent; Inclusion and Diversity; Advantaged Capabilities; Culture of Speed & Agility and a Brilliant Employee Experience.
The HRD will build robust people plan to drive engagement and performance, including action orientated talent assessments, succession planning to future-proof the business, and lead the Organisation Effectiveness agenda driving the business strategy through creating possibilities that results in high performing agile culture, game changing growth opportunities, and efficiencies for sustainable growth. In doing so, the role holder will drive the end-to-end change, pulling the levers of capability, ways of working, structure, culture, behaviours, leadership and talent to deliver the outcomes for the business. The HRD will also drive the diversity agenda by creating an environment is progressive and genuinely inclusive for all enabling business performance and create a strategy for the attraction, hiring and retention of diverse talent.
Key Accountabilities
- Partner with the market leadership team to build and deliver an ambitious and Disruptive Approach to Talent through talent plans which include robust succession planning to future proof the business, resourcing for our biggest opportunities at pace, strong proactive pipeline of talent, leveraging our employer brand proposition and creating exciting accelerated career path for people which strengthens our talent bench.
- Creates an inclusive culture where each employee feel valued for their uniqueness and are able to maximize their impact. The HRD will lead on Inclusion and Diversity strategy to deliver our ambitious Society 2030 goals and ensure this is integrated through all HR levers (talent, reward, capability, engagement etc), while partnering with ERG groups in the market.
- Drive performance enablement by coaching the General Manager and leadership team members to create an agile, stretching, fast-pace and focused performance culture and highly engaged organisation.
- Act as a custodian of Diageo Values and Reputation. This is about ensuring compliance and ethics standards are embedded and championed in the business.
- Drive effectiveness across the HR organisation to ensure we maximize the skills and capability and create capacity in organisation by brilliant basics and optimizing the partnership between in market HR business partners, COEs (like reward, talent engagement) and the shared service center.
Desired Qualifications and Experience
- 10+ years in HR roles, including business partnering in a multinational company.
- Degree qualified, preferably in HR or Business
- Experience with leadership coaching and performance management of Directors is important.
- Strong experience in talent management and capability development across a large scale organisation.
- Experience in defining and leading employee engagement agenda within a cross functional context.
- Affinity and experience with leading progressive I&D agenda.
- Real change agent experienced in driving and executing transformation in partnership with leaders, delivering enhanced business performance outcomes.
- Highly commercial. Strong understanding of a P&L, specifically direct and indirect overhead management. Able to engage in business development discussions with significant credibility.
- Entrepreneurial (courageous and capable of managing ambiguity) - has an innate curiosity to understand what drives the business, adds value through bringing an external perspective
