Diageo South, West, and Central Africa (SWC) covers more than 14 countries across Southern, Central and West Africa. It has statutory presence in 7 countries including two listed companies (Ghana and Seychelles) and one JV (Angola) and supervises manufacturing in four countries. It also handles partnerships to manufacture and distribute the Diageo portfolio across around 35 countries in Sub Saharan Africa. Given its scale and margin profile, SWC is crucial for the success of Diageo in Africa. There is also significant scope of business expansion - new territories, new categories, and new routes to market. Marketing and Corporate functions for SWC Africa are centralised with teams sitting predominantly across South Africa and Lagos.

The Marketing Finance Manager at Diageo is a strategic finance business partner responsible for driving the financial management and oversight of marketing spend across the company. This role supports the marketing team in delivering brand and business objectives by providing financial insights, strategic analysis, and financial governance. The role ensures that marketing investments are optimized, aligned with company goals, and deliver a strong return on investment for Diageo. Additionally, the role involves providing financial leadership and guidance to marketing hub business partners, ensuring appropriate financial processes are in place to support sound business decisions.
Financial Planning & Budgeting:
- Lead the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes for marketing spend, ensuring alignment with Diageo's overall financial goals.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to develop detailed budgets and resource plans for marketing campaigns, initiatives, and brand activations.
- Ensure marketing expenditure is aligned with business priorities, reviewing and challenging spend against financial targets.
- Develop timely and actionable information for annual and quarterly forecasts, supporting the development of marketing/franchise plans, strategic plans, and actual results for franchises and projects.
- Provide financial analysis to evaluate the return on marketing investments, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to deliver the best results.
- Analyze the impact of marketing activities on business performance, sales, market share, and brand health, and recommend adjustments to optimize spend.
- Track and measure the effectiveness of campaigns and marketing strategies, identifying areas for improvement and cost efficiencies.
- Proactively understand and provide insights on trends, opportunities, and challenges in the external environment relevant to the brands.
- Act as the key finance partner to the marketing team, collaborating closely with senior marketing leaders to provide financial insights and recommendations.
- Partner with the marketing team to ensure proper financial management and accountability across all marketing initiatives.
- Support the marketing team in developing cases for new marketing initiatives, campaigns, and product launches.
- Develop strong and credible relationships with marketing leadership teams and collaborate proactively with the cluster finance team.
- Ensure that marketing expenditure is properly controlled, per company policies and compliance requirements.
- Provide clear and accurate financial reporting to senior leadership, highlighting key financial metrics, trends, and variances.
- Develop and deliver monthly financial reports on marketing performance, including spend against budget, return on investment, and key business critical metrics.
- Provide insightful analysis and commentary on brand results, turning insights into foresights applicable to future results.
- Support marketing teams with scenario analysis and financial modeling to evaluate different strategies and forecast the financial impact of potential changes.
- Provide regular updates on forecasted financial performance, identifying potential risks and opportunities.
- See opportunities for cost efficiencies within the marketing spend, driving initiatives to reduce costs while maintaining campaign effectiveness.
- Lead operational improvements in the management and reporting of marketing budgets and expenses, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
- Help shape new business models/opportunities recommendations and ensure the infrastructure remains forward-thinking, driving value-added initiatives' implementation.
- A bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or a related field.
- Professional qualification (e.g., CA (SA), ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) is highly preferred.
- Proven experience (5+ years) in a finance role, with significant exposure to marketing finance or a similar commercial finance function.
- Experience working closely with marketing teams, understanding the dynamics of marketing investments, campaigns, and brand strategies.
- Strong experience in budgeting, financial forecasting, and performance analysis in a fast-paced consumer goods or FMCG environment.
- Ability to work in a matrix organization and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Hyperion, etc.).
- Familiarity with financial planning and performance management systems (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) is a plus.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to present data in a clear and actionable way.
