Global Tax is a global function, with specialists currently based in markets around the world including, but not limited to, the UK, US, Netherlands, Ireland, Hungary, and Colombia. Transfer Pricing is central to the management of Diageo's global tax strategy.

Job Dimensions:
Reporting to the Global Director - Tax Strategy, you will be responsible for:
- Strategy: Scanning the horizon to actively identify international tax opportunities and develop and implement projects to bring value, reduce risk and improve efficiency.
- Reporting: Owning and developing Diageo's Global Tax Policy and evolving our strategy for the public disclosure of tax-related data.
- Controversy: Leading or providing technical support to complex global strategic tax audits and litigation risks in respect of financing activities.
- Treasury: Providing tax support in relation to Diageo's treasury activities including external and intercompany financing and hedging transactions.
Key partners for the role include global functions such as Treasury, Accounting, Legal and Corporate Relations as well as local tax and finance teams in various countries.
Accountabilities:
As a key member of the Global Tax Strategy and Transfer Pricing team, you will contribute to delivering the team's overall agenda. Specifically, you will:
- Strategically assess potential impact on the effective tax rate of, for example, new legislation (including Pillar 2), proactively find opportunities and design and implement projects to mitigate risk / deliver value;
- Partner with the treasury function to manage tax risks associated with interest rate management initiatives, FX hedging and external bond issuances;
- Own the tax aspects of the intercompany financing arrangements including transfer pricing of financial transactions, interest withholding tax management and global interest deductibility, delivered through the Tax Strategy Manager role;
- Lead or provide technical support to complex global tax audits and litigation in respect of financing activities; Lead the group's strategy and response in relation to an ongoing UK matter;
- Support the UK tax team deliver the compliance and reporting agenda in respect of treasury companies and strategic transactions. including review of group and statutory reporting and tax returns;
- Lead the annual review of the group tax strategy and tax policy to ensure it remains appropriate, including setting the strategy for the public disclosure of tax data in response to evolving regulatory requirements; and
- Play an active role as a leader of global tax and see opportunities to deliver through others and develop other members of the function. This will include being a member of the Extended Tax Leadership Team on a rotational basis.
- ACA/ CTA, or equivalent tax / accounting qualification.
- At least 8 years PQE (or equivalent) of relevant tax experience.
- Expertise in key areas of UK tax legislation relevant to treasury tax.
- Good understanding of accounting principles under IFRS/UK GAAP applicable to treasury activities and tax accounting thereof.
- Experience of analysing legislative and policy change and assessing their impact on business.
- Ability to balance a diverse and sophisticated agenda through effective project management, prioritisation, and team working.
- Sound judgement regarding assessment and management of risk, level of work required and prioritisation.
- Ability to drive and implement strategic and policy changes relating to treasury and international financing.
- Continuous improvement attitude with an eye for simplifying and improving tax processes and activities, with experience and curiosity about using technological solutions to solve problems.
- Building great working relationships with both internal and external partners.
- Courage to maintain focus and integrity in tough situations.
- Capable of communicating sophisticated tax concepts in ways that are relevant to non-tax professionals.
