Associate Underwriter

This job is responsible for performing basic underwriting functions under approved guidelines for small to mid-size businesses. The responsibilities of this position include learning underwriting concepts and the business of Delta Dental to make sound risk and financial decisions on Delta's commercial book of business.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs comprehensive client-specific experience analysis to provide appropriate rates based on risk assessment and evaluation of smaller or less complex cases.
  • Works with fellow underwriting team members through underwriting peer review process.
  • Advises and provides guidance to sales and other internal customers on the underwriting rationale.

  • Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree is a great start, but candidates with proven related experience are also welcome. Ideally, you'll have one year or more of experience in underwriting within the healthcare industry.
  • Communication Skills: Intermediate proficiency in both written and verbal communication is essential for interacting effectively with team members and internal sales clients.
  • Mathematical Aptitude: Intermediate knowledge of mathematics is crucial for performing accurate evaluations.
  • Detail-Oriented and Curious Mindset: Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills will help you thrive in this role.
  • Preferred Knowledge: Familiarity with Current Dental Terminology (CDT) codes and dental nomenclature is a plus, though not mandatory.

Base Pay Information

The national base pay range at the end is a good-faith estimate of what Delta Dental may pay for new hires. Actual pay may vary based on Delta Dental's assessment of the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, certifications and ability to meet required minimum job qualifications. Other factors impacting pay include prevailing wages in the work location and internal equity. $45,400.00 - $95,000
