DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a talented Supplier Development Engineer - Hybrid to join our team specializing in quality for our corporate office in Troy, MI.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
Build Strong Relationships: Foster connections with external suppliers, customers, and internal stakeholders (Purchasing, Manufacturing, Engineering) to enhance quality and business outcomes.
Apply Industry Standards: Utilize Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) processes, AIAG tools, and Cummins specialty tools to develop or improve external suppliers' manufacturing processes.
Become an Effective Auditor: Participate in external supplier audits and, after certification, lead low complexity and low risk audits.

Resolve Quality Challenges: Support root cause analysis, develop corrective actions, and verify their effectiveness, eventually leading low complexity and lower risk quality resolutions.
Embrace Continuous Improvement: Contribute to product and process improvement projects using methodologies like lean and six-sigma.
Lead Quality Planning: Participate in and potentially lead quality performance planning and improvement processes for specific product types or segments of the external supply base.
Support Supplier Development: Help external suppliers enhance their processes, ensuring they meet industry and company standards.
Drive Business Outcomes: Through your efforts in quality improvement and supplier development, contribute to the overall success and competitiveness of the business.
RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
Effective Communication : Develop and deliver clear, multi-mode communications tailored to the unique needs of different audiences, ensuring everyone is on the same page.
Customer Focus : Build strong relationships with customers and deliver solutions that are centered around their needs and expectations.
Auditing Skills : Apply auditing techniques and Quality Management Systems knowledge to assess manufacturing processes for quality and safety risks, identifying non-conformances effectively.
Technical Interpretation : Use your understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing principles and Engineering Standards to accurately interpret technical requirements and improve product design for manufacturability and measurability.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree is required
Minimum of 2 years of similar work experience is required, preferably within a Forging, Heat Treat, Casting, Fabrication, or Machining processes.
Ability to travel 50% of the time.
Excel, Power Point, Word, MS Project experience is a must.
Experience in the following preferred; AIAG PPAP- APQP, MSA, SPC, FMEA, Control Plan, IATF 16949 and applicable AIAG CQI Auditing Experience and System Creation.
ASQ CQE, ASQ CQA, PMP, Six Sigma Green Belt certifications are preferred.
Additional Details:
This Hybrid role, onsite 2-3 days a week when not traveling, based out of Troy, Michigan, will lead and support Cummins-Meritor Purchasing activities (new programs, cost savings, VA/VE, etc) with the Supplier Launch Process, Supplier Improvement Process and other sustaining efforts with the North American supply base.
Lead and support internal and/or cross-functional process improvement projects to further develop our current supply to "World Class".
Mechanical or Metallurgy/Materials Science and Engineering degree with a background in heat treat, forgings, and/or castings is preferred.
Supplier Technical and Quality Systems: Assess current/new suppliers by conducting system audit evaluations. Develop improvement plans with supplier to address audit findings.
Lead Cross-Functional Teams: Resolve manufacturing issues related to new supplier/program launches and Chronic Supplier programs by implementing performance improvement plans. Identify and implement improvement projects to create a step function improvement in Supplier Performance Scorecards and Customer Performance Surveys.
Supplier Launch Programs: Support Technical Reviews/Pre-Award Meetings, lead APQP supplier management activities for PPAP submissions and development of safe launch plans as required to ensure programs are launched on-time with no quality issues.
Supplier Change/Resource Management: ensure that they receive the right information at the right time. Also coordinate and bring in cross-functional experts when needed.
Assist in executing global commodity strategies and provide regional based support as required.
