DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a talented Product Engineering Advisor to join our team specializing in Engineering for Cummins, Inc. in Shoreview, MN.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Stakeholder Collaboration : Gather input from technical managers, project leaders, engineers, and supplier partners to make informed product decisions.
- Technology Integration : Use your systems knowledge to make decisions on technology integration, design, analysis, and experimental test verification for new and existing products.
- Process Management : Create, manage, and improve processes like Engineering Standard Work (ESW), iDFMEA, and FIRG, and utilize tools such as 7-step problem solving and design review checklists.
- Problem Resolution : Lead problem resolution for complex systems with high ambiguity and significant global business impact.
- Process Improvement : Develop and improve work processes and systems across functions within a global business unit or across multiple business units.
- Team Coordination : Coordinate and direct the work of technical project teams, including direct management of small to mid-sized teams.
- Expertise Development : Serve as a multi-competency specialist or expert in a specific discipline or product area and develop local talent within the site or global business unit.
- Coaching and Mentoring : Coach and mentor other engineers, project managers, and cross-functional team members.

RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
- Product Development Execution, Monitoring and Control - Develop detailed plans and schedules to ensure all activities align with the product requirements and technical profiles.Maintain clear and consistent communication across different teams to meet resource and quality expectations.Allocate resources efficiently and monitor their usage to avoid bottlenecks.
- Product Interface Management and Integration - Identify all system interfaces and document their requirements and limits. Develop a comprehensive integration plan that outlines the methods and timing for each integration activity. Ensure that interactions across system boundaries remain within specified limits to maintain system integrity.
- Product Problem Solving - Use data-driven methods to identify the root causes of problems. Implement solutions that address these causes to prevent recurrence. Always prioritize solutions that protect and benefit the customer.
- System Requirements Engineering - Engage with stakeholders to gather and understand their needs. Translate these needs into clear, verifiable requirements.Track the status of requirements throughout the project lifecycle. Regularly assess the impact of changes to requirements on project scope, schedule, and resources.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience
- College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.
- Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
- This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
- Demonstrated success having worked in a Technical Specialist/Specialist Engineering role on lower complexity product development activities, translating customer needs and negotiating into product development plans, technical profiles and/or product specifications with a proven track record of successful product decisions.
Additional Responsibilities:
This role is for an individual with an MS in electrical engineering who can support Sales teams, Commissioning Engineers, Project Managers, and customers. The primary responsibility is to integrate various technologies for microgrids utilizing BESS, fuel cells, PV, and microgrid controllers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technology Integration : Develop microgrids by designing electrical systems that will dispatch/control BESS, fuel cells, PV, generator sets, and switchgear lineups while complying with all local relevant code, regulations and standards.
- Design : Use AutoCAD suite to create electrical single line diagrams of a fully integrated microgrid package. Interpret customer requirements and develop corresponding designs.
- Support Sales: Participate in customer meetings during sales pitch of Cummins product line and engineering capabilities
- Innovation : Look for opportunities to improve on existing designs. Work on solutions that improve overall safety and enhances system performance.
- Project Management: Accurately document project development, help PM implement projects that comply with customer requirement while controlling cost escalation through appropriate selection of BOP. Guide the suppliers when building/packaging various electrical systems.
Key skills:
- Knowledge of basic electronic/electrical system setup
- Have a basic understanding of inverter/converters and controllers
- Understand basic network and data acquisition
- Knowledge of PV systems, BESS integration
- 6-Sigma tools Green Belt certification
- Familiar with third party software such as Deif or ComAp.
