DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a talented Platform OBD Leader to join our team specializing in Engineering for Cummins Inc. in Columbus, IN.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  1. Stakeholder Engagement : By obtaining input and negotiating with various stakeholders, you will deliver valuable information, guidance, and recommendations to support project decisions and further analysis, design optimization, feasibility studies, or architecture definition.
  2. Decision-Making : You will make critical decisions on short-term project details, such as conducting analysis, testing, and communicating with stakeholders, ensuring successful project progression.
  3. Process Improvement : Applying and enhancing processes like Pre Program Planning (PPP), Product Preceding Technology (PPT), and tools related to thermal and fluid sciences, you will support high-quality decision-making.
  4. Leadership in Projects : You will independently lead smaller projects or manage complex components, systems, or services, providing full accountability to the project team.
  5. Execution of Work Processes : Delivering established and emerging work processes, you will continue to develop your technology and product knowledge.
  6. Work Process Development : Leading the development and improvement of work processes within your functional discipline, you will enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  7. Team Coordination : By directing work among technicians and temporary employees, you will assist in transferring knowledge to less experienced engineers.
  8. Technical Guidance : Providing support and guidance, you will influence the technical direction within project teams and develop proficiency in critical competency areas.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To be successful in this role you will need the following:
  1. Combustion and Emissions Expertise : Ability to interpret and predict the performance of combustion systems, leveraging knowledge of chemical energy conversion, exhaust pollutant formation, and modeling tools.
  2. Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer Skills : Proficiency in interpreting and predicting fluid and thermal system performance, understanding the flow of liquids and gases, and applying modeling and experimental tools.
  3. Thermodynamics and Energy Conversion Knowledge : Understanding of energy conversion systems like IC engines, gas turbines, fuel cells, and batteries, using thermodynamics and fluid mechanics principles.
  4. Modeling and Simulation Proficiency : Capability to impact product design decisions through the use and interpretation of computational tools and methods that predict product function capabilities.
  5. Control Systems Design : Skills in specifying software features, control system architectures, and understanding open/closed loop feedback controls and system interactions between hardware and software.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

  • College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.
  • Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience:

  • Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making.
  • Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred.

Additional Responsibilities:
  1. Platform Diagnostic Ownership and Responsibility from R&T - VPI - CPS
  2. Diagnostic ownership allocation, development schedule planning and execution management (8-step / 3-step: Internal and external)
  3. Regulatory requirements assessment and planning (i.e. IUMPR requirements, etc.)
  4. Cross-functional sim tool resolution and support (CROSS tool, R-connect)
  5. OBD Demo Planning: Aging plan development and certification testing support.
  6. Failed part creation, verification and validation for VPI and CPS
  7. Represent platform Compliance reviews and OBD forums
  8. Platform point of contact
  9. Deficiency planning and removal strategy
  10. Coaching diagnostic tuners / institutionalizing tuning best practices
