DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a talented Payroll Analyst (12-month contract) to join our team specializing in Human Resources for our Payroll department in Darlington, United Kingdom.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Accurate Payroll Processing: By ensuring that all payrolls are processed accurately and on time, you will help maintain employee satisfaction and trust in the payroll system.
- Error-Free Data Management: Your attention to detail in uploading and verifying data from various sources will minimize errors and ensure smooth payroll operations.
- Tax Compliance: By accurately calculating taxes and deductions, you will ensure compliance with tax regulations, avoiding potential legal issues and penalties.
- Customer Support: Providing excellent support to sites for off-cycle or replacement payments will enhance the overall efficiency and responsiveness of the payroll department.
- Financial Reporting: Your role in preparing and reviewing general ledger entries and other financial reports will contribute to accurate financial reporting and transparency.
- Year-End Processes: Efficiently handling year-end adjustments, tax statements, and filings will ensure a smooth and compliant year-end process.
- Continuous Improvement: Participating in improvement projects and maintaining process documentation will help streamline payroll processes and implement best practices.
- Compliance and Controls: Ensuring adherence to internal controls and payroll-related legislation will safeguard the organization against compliance risks and enhance overall governance.

RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
- Strong Knowledge of Payroll and Legislation: Understanding UK statutory legislation, including Maternity, Paternity, Adoption, SSP, PAYE, NI, and Court Orders, is crucial for accurate and compliant payroll administration.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP) and experience with Time Management, Payroll, and HR systems will enable you to handle data effectively and perform complex calculations.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to analyze data, resolve complex issues, and interpret qualitative and quantitative data will help you provide meaningful insights and support data-driven decisions.
- Excellent Customer Service and Communication: Providing first-line support for payroll queries, managing time effectively, and maintaining clear communication with sites and external agencies will ensure smooth operations and high satisfaction levels.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
- An understanding of UK Statutory legislation, Maternity, Paternity, Adoption, SSP, PAYE, NI, Court Orders.
- First line support for sites/employees with payroll queries.
- Time management reconciliation.
- Maintain and update standard operating procedures in Document Management System.
- Complete requests from sites and external agencies.
- Recording KPI and scorecard statistics and billing information.
- Good Excel and Word skills (ability to produce pivot tables, VLOOKUP etc.)
- Previous experience of payroll strongly desirable.
