DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a talented Packing Engineer - Senior to join our team specializing in Logistics in Indianapolis, IN.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways :
- Specialized Knowledge : Apply your expertise in engineering principles across various areas and projects. Your understanding of design, analysis, and release of packaging and container systems will drive efficient solutions throughout the product life cycle.
- Collaboration : Work closely with customers and suppliers to specify design requirements for both expendable and returnable packaging. Your input will directly impact the safety and efficiency of shipping finished products and raw materials.
- Continuous Improvement : Identify opportunities to enhance packaging quality, reduce costs, and minimize waste. Align these improvements with organizational goals to drive positive change.
- Container Fleet Optimization : Define the optimal size for returnable container fleets through cross-functional collaboration. Consider logistics, inventory stocking levels, and other inputs to ensure efficient operations.
- Site-Specific Requirements : Develop packaging requirements tailored to each site, considering Cummins Global Packaging Standards, safety protocols, storage needs, and equipment compatibility.
- Supplier Compliance : Collaborate with suppliers to ensure adherence to packaging standards and regulatory requirements for both inbound and outbound shipments. Your attention to detail will enhance supply chain efficiency.
- Strategic Procurement : Support Indirect Purchasing in packaging procurement initiatives. Your insights will contribute to cost-effective and sustainable packaging solutions.

- Distribution Conditions Awareness : Recognize environmental hazards and dynamic forces affecting packaging in supply chains. Design solutions that safeguard products during transportation and storage.
- Material Knowledge : Understand the benefits and limitations of different packaging mediums. Choose wisely based on product requirements and sustainability goals.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Licenses, Certifications:
- Bachelor degree in Engineering or related discipline is required.
- Packaging Engineering or Packaging Science degree is highly preferred.
- This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience:
- 3-5 years of Packaging Engineering or related experience is required
