DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, determines the quantity and order date for materials needed to meet the master production schedule or independent customer demand. Expedites purchase or production orders as appropriate.

Complies with HSE standards, policies, procedures & regulations.

Engages in HSE training.

Quality

Follows applicable standard work, process documentation, and quality procedures.

Performs quality checks on material planning master data (lead time, order quantities, etc.) taking action to support Plan for Every Part (PFEP).

Works with Quality to disposition non-conforming material in a timely manner.

Delivery

Initiates purchase and work orders to support the demand plan.

Participates on allocation calls with Sourcing Manager, supplier, and other Cummins entities to understand nature and impact of constraints.

Works with suppliers to reduce lead time and order quantities balancing supply with demand.

Collaborates with Supply Chain Planners across the organization to reposition excess inventory to locations with supporting demand.

Provides accurate, timely updates specific to inventory availability and back order recovery plans.

Manages part change requests and ramp up / ramp down activities to meet demand while minimizing excess and obsolete inventory.

Reconciles order boards for critical suppliers, critical parts, and past due orders on a routine basis.

Supports the Deliver Supplier Improvement Process initiative to improve performance metrics.

Documents, communicates, and follows-up on action items impacting the ability to execute the plan.

Takes ownership and accountability for delivery of supplier schedules that supports end Customer needs.

Demonstrates the target level of proficiency in core competencies.

Remains flexible and performs other miscellaneous duties, as required, to meet business goals.

Resolves materials-related issues at any time during the manufacturing process with global suppliers, internal customers and suppliers, and external customers, regularly requiring availability for calls and meetings 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Coordinates all aspects of material delivery for products; acts as company representative with Cummins' suppliers; understands supplier operations sequences to plan for orders and shipments; negotiates supplier schedules to match customer demand; identifies and resolves material procurement issues with customers and suppliers.

Understands metrics related to inventory control; improves inventory by developing reduction strategies; works with suppliers to improve delivery, lower lead times and implement Material Agreements; tracks and measures supplier performance.

Resolves component conflicts and part allocation issues; resolves material transfer and orders issues between plants; verifies and tracks all incoming and outgoing material.

Acts as a user or super user of inventory control systems; determines order rules necessary to drive accurate planning and inventory levels; conducts troubleshooting for systems issues; provides input into and drives changes for upgrades and improvements to the system.

Develops part inventory and storage processes; maintains all associated records; coordinates part pulls and shipments; maintains related databases.

Researches engineering releases for compatibility and history; works with purchasing and engineering to implement changes; coordinates with quality regarding materials and supplier quality issues.

Makes related freight decisions considering timing and cost effectiveness.

Responsible for cycle count accuracy for all parts; meets threshold to ensure that plant processing is not slowed or stopped due to parts shortages.

Ensures, with Quality, that all scrap transactions are accurate.

Leads inventory meetings; participates in manufacturing meetings; interfaces and communicates with internal and external customers; directs people to the appropriate resource; researches solutions and responds to email and phone inquiries.

Coordinates related financial activities such as tracking charges and charge backs; interfaces with financial systems; analyzes, compares, and reports related financial data.

Initiates, develops, leads, and participates in improvement procedures; actively participates in self- and team audits and resulting corrective actions.

May develop and conduct training programs.

Works within the team to identify team member weaknesses and gaps to bring the overall performance of the team to a high level of performance.

Understands the structure of the organization and maintains a strong network across departments; draws on network to answer questions, solve problems, and successfully execute responsibilities.

Demonstrates confidentiality in execution of all responsibilities.

​Materials Planning System Utilization - Uses the materials planning system to manage supply and demand plans taking long-term corrective action on exception messages and other alerts based on root cause analysis; occasionally refers to adhoc tools such as Excel, Access, TOAD, OMS, etc. in performing problem solving, while leveraging the materials planning system as the primary tool in day-to-day operations.

​Part Change Control Management - Evaluates and implements engineering change request (obsolescence, supersessions, new part release, etc.) to meet customer delivery requirements while minimizing excess and obsolete inventory.

​Plan for Every Part (PFEP) - Uses PFEP in planning, designing, and management of systems and processes within a facility to ensure delivery of right part at the right time in the right quantity to the right place, which in turn guarantees smooth operations; applies PFEP principles on the end to end supply chain with particular attention to the relationships between master data management, materials planning parameters, engineered material flows, transport management, and warehouse management.

Master Supply Scheduling - Establishes and maintains a valid Master Production Schedule for a family of products, which meets customer's expectations and requirements while maximizing operational efficiency; validates procurement scheduling, production scheduling, and replenishment planning are aligned to manufacturing and assembly assets for conversion.

Materials KPI Management - Operates in relation to recent or historical outputs as compared to expectations of the organization to determine next steps to drive improvement; assesses gaps to the supply chain performance against the expectation of achieving target deliverables; interprets KPIs to understand end-customer impact; strategically balances trade-offs to influence one KPI while minimizing the impact to others.

Education, Licenses, Certifications:

High school diploma or certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience to the extent such experience meets applicable regulations.

College, University or equivalent degree in Business, Engineering, or related field preferred.

This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience:

Requires significant relevant work experience or specialized skills obtained through education, training, or on-the-job experience in an equivalent field such as materials planning, production scheduling, manufacturing, or inventory control.

Four year experience/education requirement accomplished through one of the following: Bachelors degree, associates degree and at least two years of relevant

experience, or at least four years of relevant experience required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to process and monitoring orders against suppliers

Ability to employ problem solving techniques to solve complex supplier situations

Works towards meeting the supply plan to eliminate parts related downtime to production

Monitors and adjusts planned incoming Purchase Orders to align with production requirements to include pulling in, pushing out, and working to cancel orders based on demand changes

Strong attention to detail

Competent in Microsoft Excel

Meet expectations to update supplier issue reports
