DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a talented Engineering Specialist to join our team specialising in Software Controls & HIL Simulation for Cummins Drivetrain & Braking Systems in Cwmbran, Wales, United Kingdom.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Innovative Control Systems: Designing and developing advanced control systems for braking and chassis mechatronics, enhancing vehicle safety and performance.
  • Cross Functional Collaboration: Ensuring comprehensive system requirements and functionality through close collaboration with electronics, mechatronics, mechanical, and safety teams.
  • Custom Algorithms: Optimising system performance and precision with expertly written control logic and algorithms.
  • Simulation and Validation: Creating and refining mathematical models using simulation tools to ensure robust and reliable control strategies.
  • Safety Compliance: Contributing to the overall reliability and safety of products by ensuring software and systems meet safety standards like ISO 26262.
  • Testing and Validation: Validating control systems to meet high performance and quality standards through MIL, SIL, and HIL testing.
  • Technical Problem-Solving: Maintaining system reliability and efficiency by diagnosing and resolving electro-mechanical and electro-pneumatic system issues.
  • Documentation and Knowledge Transfer: Supporting knowledge transfer and continuous improvement within the team by creating detailed technical documentation and mentoring less-experienced engineers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong skills in vehicle dynamics and plant modelling using tools like SimScape, TruckSim, and TruckMaker. Solid programming abilities in C, C++, and Python, along with proficiency in simulation software such as MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Product Development Knowledge: Good grasp of electronics, electro-pneumatic components, and the entire product development process, including rapid prototype software development.
  • Regulatory Awareness: Comprehensive knowledge of safety standards and regulations relevant to the product industry to ensure compliance and safety in all development stages.
  • Software Development Skills: Proficiency in production software development, following the SYS-SW development lifecycle, to create reliable and efficient software solutions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

  • Significant experience designing and programming control systems for mechatronics, electro-pneumatic, electro-mechanical, and electrical systems, including motors and linear actuators. Must have a strong foundation in developing custom control logic and algorithms.
  • Experience in Motor Controls Software Development for PMSM and BLDC motors.
  • Experience in HIL configuration and simulation using platforms such as dSpace Scalexio, SpeedGoat, and VT Systems.
