DESCRIPTION

Key Responsibilities:

  • System Design & Integration : Develop and tailor electronic and electrical systems for Cummins' products, including BESS, DC-DC converters, DC-AC inverters, and AC-DC rectifiers.
  • Requirements Translation & Specification : Work with cross-functional teams (technical, product, manufacturing, suppliers) to translate product requirements into technical specifications for hardware and software systems.
  • System Modeling & Simulation : Use tools like Homer, Xendee, and Cummins' in-house tools to design, simulate, and optimize systems for BESS and power electronics.
  • Validation & Testing : Lead and execute comprehensive testing and validation plans for fully integrated hardware and software systems, including design verification (DVP&R) and troubleshooting.
  • Continuous Improvement : Contribute to the improvement of system design, development processes, and tools; drive product optimization for performance, cost, and reliability.
  • Leadership & Mentorship : Lead small projects or complex product components with accountability for delivery. Mentor less-experienced engineers, guiding their development and reviewing their work for quality and efficiency.
  • Customer & Stakeholder Collaboration : Engage with customers and stakeholders to gather input, influence decisions, and provide technical recommendations to improve product outcomes.
  • Compliance & Safety : Ensure designs meet safety and regulatory standards (e.g., UL, IEC, IEEE), with a focus on battery safety and longevity.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Experience:

  • Industry Experience : At least 5-7 years of relevant experience in power electronics, energy storage systems, or a related field.
  • Significant experience as a Senior or Lead Engineer in energy systems, power electronics, or a related field.
  • Proven track record in system design, integration, and validation, especially within BESS, power electronics, or energy management systems.
  • Strong understanding of electrical grid integration, microgrids, and off-grid systems design.

Competencies:

  • Systems Thinking : Ability to define system boundaries, assess interactions between components, and predict behavior to optimize system performance.
  • Product Problem Solving : Strong problem-solving skills using data-driven approaches to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • System Requirements Engineering : Expertise in defining and managing system requirements throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Product Verification & Validation : Ability to develop and manage validation plans, analyze test results, and guide product decision-making.
  • Machine Integration & Optimization : Proficient in integrating sub-systems into a fully optimized product, ensuring reliability, cost-efficiency, and performance.
  • Control Systems Expertise : Knowledgeable in designing and applying open/closed loop control systems, including the interaction between hardware and software in embedded systems.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications:

  • Education : Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related STEM field is required. A Master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred.
  • Licensing : This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Battery Technologies : Expertise in BESS solution development, battery management systems (BMS), and thermal management for battery safety.
  • Power Electronics : Hands-on experience with DC-DC converters, inverters, and rectifiers.
  • Energy Management Systems (EMS) : Skilled in EMS and control systems to optimize energy usage, storage, and grid integration.
  • Simulation & Modeling Tools : Proficient in tools like Homer, Xendee, and in-house software for system design, simulation, and optimization.
  • Safety Standards : Knowledge of relevant safety and compliance standards (UL, IEC, IEEE), particularly in the context of energy storage and power electronics.
  • Communication & Collaboration : Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences and work collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • Problem-Solving : Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot complex electronic systems and recommend solutions.
  • Decision-Making : Excellent decision quality, able to make sound and timely choices to drive product development forward.
  • Project Management : Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize deliverables, and ensure successful project execution.
  • Mentorship & Leadership : Experience guiding less-experienced engineers and fostering a collaborative, high-performance team culture.
  • Technical Communication : Ability to communicate complex technical ideas clearly and concisely, both written and verbally.
  • Technical Problem-Solving : Demonstrated experience resolving complex technical issues, particularly in electronic applications or power systems.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration : Proven ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, product managers, and external partners.
  • Tools : Proficiency with MS Office and other design, simulation, or testing tools relevant to the role.

Work Environment & Additional Requirements:

  • This position may require occasional travel to customer sites, manufacturing facilities, or partner locations.
  • Flexibility in work hours and remote work options may be available based on project needs and business requirements.
