DESCRIPTION
This entry-level/early career professional position focuses on tailoring electronic and electrical systems for Cummins products. The Electronic Systems Product Engineer will translate product requirements into hardware and software technical specifications that control Cummins products in various customer applications. The role includes configuring, tuning, and validating integrated hardware and software systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Investigate electronic applications and systems issues, understand causal mechanisms, recommend solutions, and document results with guidance from senior team members.
- Apply and support improvements in electronic applications and systems development processes such as system specification, modeling, simulation, calibration, and Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R).
- Use tools for simulation, calibration, and product life maintenance.
- Collaborate with customers, technical teams, manufacturing engineers, and suppliers to deliver information and recommendations that lead to quality product decisions.
- Make decisions regarding electronic and electrical system design, calibration, and testing that impact product quality and performance.
- Resolve moderately complex component, product, system, and service issues with increasing technical complexity and ambiguity as experience is gained.
- Execute established work processes while developing technology and product knowledge.
- Engage in continuous improvement of systems and processes.
- Contribute to team goals, exhibit influence within the group, and develop proficiency in critical competency areas.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Experience:
- Entry-level/early career professional.
- Preferred candidates will have experience in student employment (internship, co-op, etc.) or as an early career professional in a relevant technical discipline.
- Familiarity with MS Office tools is preferred.
Competencies:
- Design and Application of Mechatronics Systems: Specify electronic hardware and interconnections for control systems.
- Machine Integration and Optimization: Combine subsystems to achieve desired customer output and optimize performance, reliability, cost, and quality.
- Product Failure Mode Avoidance: Identify and mitigate potential product failure modes to improve reliability.
- Product Function Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis: Use computational tools to predict product performance and influence design decisions.
- Product Problem Solving: Identify and solve product issues through robust, data-driven solutions and root cause analysis.
- Product Verification and Validation Management: Develop validation plans, assess system solutions, and manage product risks.
- System Requirements Engineering: Translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements and manage them throughout the system lifecycle.
- Systems Thinking: Define systems by identifying linkages and interactions between elements, predict behavior, and suggest modifications.
- Cross-Functional Design Integration: Translate stakeholder needs into virtual designs and conduct cross-functional design reviews.
- Applies Principles of Statistical Methods: Use statistical tools to make data-based decisions.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Electronics control System Engineering basics, Test plan creation,
- Test execution on Genset and on Test System,
- Requirement capture,
- iDFMEA, FTA, 7-step problem solving (basic understanding),
- Understanding of AC metering and calculations involved,
- Codes and standards (basic understanding of UL, EN),
- Technical documentation skills, basic understanding of simulation systems like HIL.
Education, Licenses, Certifications:
- College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a relevant STEM field is required.
- Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline may be required for specific roles.
