DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a talented Application Controls Lead to join our team specializing in engineering for our Cummins' business in Columbus, IN .

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Problem Resolution : Investigating electronic application and systems problems, understanding causal mechanisms, and recommending appropriate actions will ensure timely and effective solutions.
  • Process Improvement : Applying and improving development processes and tools, including system specification, modeling, simulation, calibration, and troubleshooting, will enhance overall system performance and reliability.
  • Quality Decision-Making : Gathering input from various stakeholders to deliver informed recommendations will lead to high-quality product decisions.
  • Design and Calibration : Making decisions in electronic and electrical system design, requirements, calibration, and testing will directly impact the quality and performance of subsystems.
  • Mentorship and Review : Reviewing the work of less-experienced developers and testers will ensure robust, reusable, and efficient designs, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Leadership in Projects : Providing independent leadership on smaller projects or complex components will drive successful project outcomes and innovation.
  • Process Development : Leading the development and improvement of work processes and systems will streamline operations and enhance efficiency within the business unit.
  • Knowledge Transfer : Coordinating and directing work among technicians and student employees, and assisting in knowledge transfer to less experienced engineers, will build a stronger, more capable team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • Design and Application of Mechatronics Systems - Specifies electronic hardware and interconnections that measure and control systems; applies electronic hardware and interconnections in Cummins' products.
  • Machine Integration and Optimization - Combines various parts or sub-systems into a whole to achieve the output most desired by the customer; applies Cummins' installation requirements using our standard tools, processes and identified best practices to ensure optimization of performance, reliability, cost and quality; analyzes technical issues using proven problem-solving and troubleshooting techniques for rapid resolution.
  • Product Function Modeling, Simulation and Analysis - Impacts product design decisions through the utilization and/or interpretation of computational tools and methods that predict the capability of a product's function relative to its system, sub-system and/or component level requirements.
  • Product Problem Solving - Solves product problems using a process that protects the customer; determines the assignable cause; implements robust, data-based solutions; and identifies the systemic root causes and recommended actions to prevent problem reoccurrence.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

  • College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.
  • Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
  • Prior Senior or Lead Engineer equivalent work experience in a relevant discipline area is required with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making.
  • Knowledge of MS Office tools is preferred

Additional Responsibilities:

  • This position will lead the controls development for OEM vertical integration with X10 EPA 27 engine program. The controls system will utilize CM3550 with CSAR software design to deliver solution for OEM E/E architecture, support OEM Powertrain feature suite, ISO 26262 functional safety, ISO 21434 cybersecurity compliance.
  • Responsibilities for this position include but not limited to:
  • Liaison with Customer engineering team stakeholders to determine OEM controls requirements and delivery schedules
  • Support VPI stakeholder meetings, SPI, FIRG, Service, etc.
  • Liaison with ECM HW, software and calibration suppliers to coordinate system requirements, deliveries to above needs
  • Authority to set controls system supplier delivery priority and configuration management for the OEM vertical integration project
  • Lead calibration development utilizing CSAR development tools

Compensation

Please note that the salary range provided is a good faith estimate on the applicable range. The final salary offer will be determined after considering relevant factors, including a candidate's qualifications and experience, where appropriate.
