DESCRIPTION
This entry-level or early-career professional role in applied science focuses on evaluating and analyzing the acoustic performance of components and systems. The Acoustic Systems Engineer utilizes commercial and in-house tools to conduct simulations and measurements, producing design recommendations to meet customer requirements. The role involves moderate technical complexity and requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure optimal acoustic performance across various products.
Key Responsibilities:
- Acoustic Investigation and Problem Resolution: Conducts analysis and experiments on acoustic-related product and system issues to identify causal mechanisms, recommend actions, and document solutions. This involves utilizing detailed engineering standard work instructions (EPs) and following established processes for design validation (DVP&R).
- Acoustics Performance Evaluation: Collaborates with Product Development, Validation, Design, and Functional Discipline teams to evaluate acoustics performance parameters such as sound power, pressure, transmission, structure-borne noise, and natural frequencies. Provides design recommendations to optimize these parameters.
- Decision-Making and Problem Ownership: Resolves moderately complex issues independently, with technical ambiguity and complexity increasing as experience grows. May coordinate work among technicians or student employees when necessary.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Contributes to team goals and provides expertise on noise, acoustics, and digital signal processing, leveraging analysis and test data to support acoustic performance decisions.
