Dolby's consumer entertainment and cinema businesses are bringing Dolby's breakthrough technologies, powering the world's top movies, TV shows, music, games, and live sports to more places around the world across a wider range of consumer experiences and devices.
As a Field Applications Engineer (FAE) based in the Detroit Area and focused on Automotive, you will help demonstrate the value of Dolby's audio and imaging technologies to its partners and support them in integrating the technologies into automotive products. You will play an active role in Dolby's device approval process and in resolving ecosystem issues identified with existing devices in the field. You will be the technical liaison between the customers and Dolby's internal teams such as support and engineering.
Essential Job Functions
- Support the delivery of commercial wins defined by the Commercial Partnerships USA Automotive goals.
- Provide detailed systems-level support for Dolby Audio/Video Technologies to Dolby's automotive customers.
- Support and resolve issues regarding Dolby Technologies in product development and deployment.
- Deliver pre-sales support, technical training to customers, and support to Dolby Account Managers as required.
- Give relevant technical and subjective analysis of the customer's systems across In-vehicle- Infotainment, streaming services integration, and cabin acoustics.
- Assist customer in navigating Dolby's certification process.
- Partner with the US account management team, in conjunction with the rest of the sales group, evangelize Dolby technologies to the automotive and consumer electronics market.
- Document information and share key learnings with the wider technical community in Dolby.
- Give regular and influential specialist advice to peers and customers and always works to raise the level of expertise within Dolby and its customers.
- Actively maintain awareness of key industry issues, live entertainment practices and commercial reality. Keep up to date with market and commercial developments in and outside of Dolby.
- Degree or equivalent in Science, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or Music Technology.
- Ability to understand requirements for audio and video technologies used in automotive applications. Demonstrable hands-on experience working with automotive electronics, consumer electronics, or silicon providers.
- Ability to get develop and maintain an in-depth professional knowledge of the Dolby products and technologies associated with automotive industry.
- Able to work and learn on own initiative and with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Willingness to travel (approx. 30% of the time on average), mostly within the United States (some international travel may be required), and a willingness to work outside normal office hours, when required.
- Naturally stay clear thinking and calm while handling objections; be clear on own objectives but aim for win/win solution on behalf of Dolby & our customers.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Comprehensive written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with video content creation and CLI tools, scripting languages and exposure to C/C++ code
- Ability to understand and explain technical issues to technical and non-technical personnel
- Interest in video production, recording engineering, game/film video, or cinematography is highly desirable
