PRIMARY FUNCTION:

This is a key position in the day-to-day operations of the asphalt paving division. Manage construction projects, obtain information, and prepare job costs for project bids. The candidate will report directly to the Area Manager of Paving.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Project Manager/Estimator has the overall responsibility for coordination and planning of paving projects, preparing job cost for project bids, and tracking job cost along the building process. Responsible for crews having the materials, equipment, information, and manpower to complete the project on time and within budget. Also responsible for scheduling, coordinating subcontractors, quantity take offs, and invoicing.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Assisting the Area Manager of Paving by obtaining information and preparing job cost for projects to be bid
  • Attending pre-bid meetings and site showings
  • Visiting job sites and reviewing plans and specifications
  • Contacting suppliers for their quotes on materials
  • Preparing estimates for labor and equipment cost for projects to be bid based on information obtained from project plans, specifications, and verbal instructions
  • Participating in bid reviews
  • Visiting job sites on which we are successful bidders, to see if job is being performed as planned when bid
  • Visiting job sites to provide assistance to Foremen
  • Visiting job sites of unsuccessful bids to view methods and procedures of other companies

  • Supervising and supporting Project Superintendents/Foreman
  • Performing Construction Staking, layout and surveying as needed
  • Utilizes various surveying tools and instruments to gather information and data for existing, proposed and as-built conditions
  • Assisting the Area Manager with deciding what projects to pursue
  • Monitoring progress and instituting changes as needed
  • Monitoring costs incurred on projects and making corrections as needed
  • Reviewing and amending monthly job costs as needed
  • Maintaining communication with customers, subcontractors and suppliers
  • Monitoring customer satisfaction with the company's services
  • Working with administration on pay applications/billing
  • Creating opportunities for initiative and self-directed responsibility
  • Recognizing employees' contributions to achieving objectives
  • Being safety oriented

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate Degree in Engineering or Construction Management, or a high school graduate with equivalent experience
  • Basic computer skills, plan reading, scheduling, estimating, negotiating and management.
  • 2 years of experience in the paving industry with supervision of others
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have the ability to work effectively in a high pressure, multi-tasking environment, drive projects forward, and meet or exceed goals
  • Professional ethics, tact, and courtesy in dealing with management, team members, vendors, and customers
  • Ability to travel as needed

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions; and extreme cold and/or heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This position will be divided between office and job sites.
