Position Overview

Assist the Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager with companywide regulatory compliance. Ability to perform both administrative & field safety functions. Provide safety support to all divisions of Harrison Construction to include Ready Mix Concrete, Hot Mix Asphalt, and Concrete/Dirt Construction. Ability to identify & correct unsafe working conditions in the plant/field settings to ensure compliance with occupational safety and health regulations. This position will also assist in all aspects of Environmental compliance. Compiles data and reports EHS stats to management personnel weekly. This will be a Full-Time salary position with benefits.

Requirements
  • • Attitude/cooperation: willingness and ability to receive instruction on key safety initiatives and report back timely to EHS management on outcomes. Always maintaining courteous and professional manner with co-workers, customers and public. Willingness to ask questions. Must adhere to Code of Business Conduct.
  • • Minimum 3 years field safety experience in OSHA 1926 and/or OSHA 1910
  • • Working knowledge of DOT/FMCSA 49 CFR 380-399 & Part 40
  • • Experience with DOT& Non-DOT Drug & Alcohol Program administration
  • • Current OSHA 30 hour or above training and the ability to obtain CHST within the first year of employment
  • • OSHA 1926 510 Certification a plus
  • • Strong time management skills required
  • • Ability to work flexible schedule to include days, nights, weekends, and on rare occasions holidays around business needs. This is not a 9-5 M-F position.
  • • Willingness to travel to plants and job sites throughout TN
  • • Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should be skilled in Microsoft Office Suite and be willing to learn new software.
  • • HCSS & Riskonnect software experience a plus
  • • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • • Strong Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • • Ability to work independently and in a team atmosphere.
  • • Ability to review, comprehend, and summarize EHS documents for all levels of management.


Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
  • • Ensures compliance with 1926/1910 OSHA regulations as well as Environmental compliance
  • • Work with local municipalities and government agencies for water and air compliance
  • • Performs field/plant safety audits to determine compliance with prescribed safety equipment and safe work practices
  • • Inspects specified areas for fire-prevention equipment and ensure emergency response supplies are kept current
  • • Works in conjunction with HR and EHS Manager on workers compensation incidents
  • • Tests/identifies working areas for noise, toxic, and other hazards, using decibel meter, gas detector, and light meter
  • • Perform accident/incident investigations to ascertain causes for use in recommending preventive safety measures and developing safety program/s
  • • Document all accidents, safety violations, unsafe conditions/activities
  • • Prepares report of findings with recommendations for corrective action/s
  • • Ability to demonstrate use of safety equipment
  • • Keep current claims, training, & DOT driver qualification files. Perform data entry, organizing, & filing to maintain regulatory compliance.
  • • Completing plant & jobsite safety audits providing timely feedback to key personnel on hazard correction requirements
  • • Ability to coach with all levels of employees on safe work practices.
  • • Work with other departments to troubleshoot problems and document results.
  • • Perform routine preventative safety audits and inspections on plant components and equipment
  • • Ability to train employees with public speaking skills as needed
  • • Promote Safety programs to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses
  • • Additional assignments per EHS Manager's instructions
  • • Weekly job site/Harrison location visits


Qualifications

Education/Experience
  • 1926/1910 OSHA 30 training with minimum 3 years field safety experience
  • College degree and/or equivalent experience in Ready Mix Concrete, Hot Asphalt Plant, & Concrete/Dirt Construction preferred.
  • Ability to interpret and apply verbal and/or written instructions in English.
  • Must be willing to gain familiarity with construction safety management & environmental permitting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Physical ability to traverse jobsites while documenting observations and completing audits.
  • Other physical demands that may be utilized but can be modified to fit individual needs include: twisting, reaching, standing, walking, and typing
