Primary Responsibilities

We are looking for a motivated Commercial Sales Representative to oversee our sales territory for construction materials, focusing primarily on asphalt and aggregates. This role involves comprehensive sales and marketing efforts, interfacing with internal teams and external customers, sub-contractors, and truckers. The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, a solid understanding of business fundamentals, and a minimum of 2 years of sales experience. Responsibilities include preparing estimates, managing customer relations, and providing world-class customer service.

Key Responsibilities

Sales/Marketing
  • Comprehensive sales and marketing of all Tilcon Connecticut products and services, with a primary focus on asphalt and aggregates. Customer base includes residential customers, municipalities, commercial businesses, and various agencies within the State of Connecticut.
  • Provide solutions to our customers incorporating our products into their project.
  • Follow up on all sales/quotes in a timely basis.
  • Keep fully abreast of the current marketing conditions and the activities of competitors.
  • Develop and strengthen relations with our FOB asphalt and aggregate customers.
  • Strive to provide "world class customer service" to all clients.


Estimating
  • Derive item quantities from plans and review product specifications.
  • Possess a working knowledge of paving and grading operations including cost and production factors.


Administrative
  • Prepare required paperwork, including estimate sheets, quotes, bid documents, contracts, subcontracts, job worksheets, special price forms, credit approvals, billing reports, sales reports/information requests etc. accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Review/Update monthly backlogs and enter into our forecasting models on a monthly basis.
  • Continuously review aging and address delinquent customers in coordination with our Credit Department.
  • Consistently visit our production sites and develop strategies to address operational challenges i.e. slow moving inventories, moving waste products, etc.


Knowledge/Skill Requirements:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as job specifications, bid documents, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Employees are required to wear personal protective equipment in designated operations and construction areas as outlined by OSHA and state agencies.
  • Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position: Hardhat, safety glasses, safety vest, ear plugs and reinforced toed shoes for any work in the field.


Qualifications

Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations, using some combination of skills and abilities. The selected candidate will be required to have excellent customer service skills both externally and internally. Our top candidate will have demonstrated outstanding interpersonal skills as this role will work within a team environment with other co-workers and managers.

Education/Experience
  • 4-year degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of sales experience.
  • General understanding of business fundamentals
  • Strong P.C. skills required, primarily Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Teams and Word.
  • Experience in using Salesforce.
  • Must have good written, verbal, and organizational skills.
  • Math Competency is required.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative style.
