A role you will love
As aTechnical Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in the integration and development of programming and database applications. Utilizing our proprietary software (SCRIP-macros) that interfaces with the front end of our core mainframe system, alongside Microsoft Integrated Development Environments (Excel-VBA/VB.Net/VBScript, MS SQL/Access, Visual Studio TFS), you will ensure seamless functionality and optimization of our systems.
Your responsibilities will encompass a blend of technical business analyst functions, including configuration maintenance, drafting requirement documents, and developing solutions for both internal and vendor-based applications. You will collaborate closely with project team members to identify, analyze, and implement continuous improvement initiatives, as well as manage larger projects across all supported systems and applications.
Other Responsibilities include:
• Program Design and Development: Design and code integrated, high-quality programs using internal SCRIP macro language, SQL, MS Access, and VBA software.
• Timely Completion: Ensure all programming tasks are completed on schedule and within the estimated time limits.
• System Support: Learn and support all internal systems, resolving issues swiftly and efficiently.
• Quality Delivery: Deliver programs that meet or exceed client expectations in terms of quality.
• Feedback Provision: Provide feedback to the Global Manager - End User Computing on approach, consistency, reusability, quality, documentation style, completeness, and development methodology.
• Technical Support: In a test and live production environment, offer technical support to all team members and stakeholders.
• Cross-Departmental Liaison: Communicate effectively with other business areas to ensure seamless operations.
• Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Perform troubleshooting, maintenance, and upgrades of applications.
• Process Improvement: Develop processes and systems that enhance operational throughput, improve efficiency, and reduce operating costs continuously.
• Robust Code Creation: Create code that is robust, scalable, modular, and delegable to junior programmers and stakeholders.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Correspond and meet with both internal and external stakeholders to address inquiries, providing precise written or verbal guidance and interpretation to uphold high-quality service standards.
What will you bring to the role?
• Education: Degree, Certificate, or Diploma in IT or a related discipline.
• Programming Experience: Proven experience in programming, with a focus on Microsoft Excel-VBA (Visual Basic for Applications), MS Access, and MS SQL.
• Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal English skills, essential for clear and effective communication with stakeholders.
Bonus points if you have:
• SCRIP Macro Language: Knowledge of our internal SCRIP macro language for interfacing with our core mainframe system. Candidates without this knowledge will receive internal training.
• Microsoft Visual Studio: Proficiency in Microsoft Visual Studio, specifically VB.Net, and experience with TFS (Team Foundation Server) for source control.
• Business Intelligence Tools: Familiarity with SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services), SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services), and Power BI for business intelligence and data visualization.
• Monarch Parsing Software: Experience with Monarch parsing software for data extraction and analysis.
• Agile Project Management: Understanding and application of Agile Project Management principles.
• Continuous Improvement Methodologies: Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma, DEVOPS, and other continuous improvement methodologies to drive operational excellence.
