Job Summary

Instructional Designer and Learning Technology Specialist is responsible for development and revision of learning assets using appropriate instructional design methods, including, but not limited to, ILT, eLearning, mobile learning, microlearning, performance support, virtual training, instructional videos, and more using a suite of instructional design technologies that could include Articulate Storyline, Articulate Studio, Captivate, Adobe Connect, and mobile learning content software. This role applies knowledge of current learning models and adult learning theory to determine the best instructional strategy to meet internal customer learning expectations.

The Instructional Designer and Learning Technology Specialist will also provide technical support for Heartland's learning management system as well as other digital tools for teaching and learning. Responsibilities for this role include addressing technical and functional questions related to the LMS and integrated tools, staying current on instructional best practices especially involving the use of technology, staying current on emerging educational technology and learning management system tools, and assisting with training team members and support staff on various learning technologies.

Job Responsibilities

  • Build timelines, tools, and materials for ILT, eLearning, mobile learning, microlearning, performance support, virtual training, video learning and more as appropriate by effectively utilizing learning science, adult learning principles, and web accessibility standards and by utilizing design models such as ADDIE, AL, SAM, and design thinking. Author course content, simulations, and scenarios, as well as write, and record audio scripts and work with SMEs and other voice talent to ensure proper pronunciation and style.
  • Partner effectively with internal and external partners and subject matter experts to ensure the requested solution is in alignment with the business needs and capabilities. Conduct insightful learning needs analyses, develop learning objectives, and design learning assets using sound adult learning principles.
  • Assist with and troubleshoot advanced technical issues that may be generated for the LMS and any technology around training. Responsibility for making all the needed updates in LMS.
  • Provide assistance during the review, assessment, evaluation, and implementation of adapt new technology or digital practices, and offer support for employees and leaders.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in instructional design, education, communication or related field required.
  • Three to five years of experience creating learning material and experiences across modalities and using software and/or technical curriculum development/course design tools for synchronous and asynchronous instructor-led, computer-based, and web-based training, including blended learning programs.
  • Learning management system experience required. Experience with SuccessFactors preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with various learning, eLearning and video authoring software (e.g. Storyline, Rise, Captivate, Premiere, Camtasia, etc.)
  • Exceptional communicator who can serve as a liaison between numerous internal teams to ensure solution knowledge is shared across the organization and duplication of content development effort is minimized.
  • Ability to understand process and technical content, communicate well with subject matter experts and translate content to all levels of the organization.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to make presentations, facilitate meetings, and transfer knowledge of training intent to others.
  • Strong editing skills, graphic design skills, creative ability and technical expertise are strong plusses.
  • Strong technical aptitude and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
  • Advanced computer application and technology skills; advanced skill in Microsoft Office products.
