The Office of Innovation & Technology (OIT) is the central IT agency for the City of Philadelphia headed by the Chief Information Officer (CIO). OIT oversees all major information and communications technology initiatives for the City of Philadelphia - increasing the effectiveness of the information technology infrastructure, where the services provided are advanced, optimized, and responsive to the needs of the City of Philadelphia’s businesses, residents, and visitors. OIT responsibilities include: identifying the most effective approach for implementing new information technology directions throughout city government; improving the value of the city’s technology assets and the return on the city’s technology investments; ensuring data security continuity; planning for continuing operations in the event of disruption of information technology or communications services; and supporting accountable, efficient and effective government across every city department, board, commission and agency.
Job Description
Under the management of the Office of Innovation & Technology (OIT), the Systems Engineer will fill a crucial role in supporting the Philadelphia Fire Department. OIT is looking for a talented and motivated team player who welcomes challenges and takes pride in making a positive impact in the field of Public Safety and Technology in the sixth-largest city in the United States while enjoying the flexible work schedule, competitive benefits, and vibrant life in the City of Brotherly Love.
The Systems Engineer will be responsible for mission-critical cross-platform technologies, which include data storage, backup disaster recovery, active directory administration, network security, SAN administration, planning, architectural planning and design, server management and engineering, and other related infrastructure needs. This role is crucial within the Philadelphia Fire Department's IT infrastructure, thus sound technical knowledge of the subject area as well as consistent reliability is required. Professional skills, attention to detail, along with the ability to work within a team are necessary to be successful in this role.
Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Ability to ensure the highest level of systems and infrastructure availability.
• Ability to provide sound recommendations for continued service improvement.
• Collaboration with other professionals to ensure high-quality deliverables within organization guidelines, policies, and procedures.
• Endpoint management ( Microsoft Intune).
• Image development and deployment
• Strong knowledge of virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
• Ability to provide administration for a virtual environment, including creation, migration, and maintenance.
• Level 3 systems troubleshooting & problem resolution.
• Storage management and capacity planning.
• Backup solution management.
• Server management.
• Planning and implementing software and firmware upgrades.
• Providing primary support for infrastructure systems.
• Applications upgrade, deployments, and migration activities.
• Server administration and monitoring.
• Address security concerns and infrastructure needs.
• Active Directory implementation, administration, and maintenance activities (GPO)
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) or above from a four‐year college or university in computer science or a related field desired.
• At least 3 years of experience in the areas of solution engineering system upgrades, patch management, enterprise backup, and recovery.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Organizational skills.
• Decision-making.
• Information security and network security.
• Analytical skills.
• Active Directory management.
• Strong knowledge management of systems: PowerShell scripting
• Strong knowledge of industry-standard security protocols: SSL, TLS, IPsec, HTTPS, SFTP, Kerberos, etc.
• Ability to work in an occasionally high-pressure environment
Additional Information
Salary Range: $75,000 - $85,000
Starting salary to be determined based on experience and qualifications.
