The Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (“CAO”) works to modernize city government and improve the efficiency, effectiveness, equity, and accessibility of City services by strengthening the city’s administrative functions and enabling resident-facing departments to evaluate, plan, and continually improve their service delivery.
The following departments and functions report to the CAO: Office of Talent and Employee Success, Office of Innovation and Technology, Procurement, Records, Office of Administrative Review, Bureau of Administrative Adjudication, Service Design Studio, and the Office of People with Disabilities.
Job Description
Position Summary
This role reports directly to the Deputy CAO for Strategic Design & Transformation and will serve as project manager for cross-departmental initiatives. The role will focus on driving both current CAO projects as well as expanding the role of the CAO as it undertakes other priority initiatives of the administration. Key activities are day-to-day management of projects, communicating to leadership about project status, and establishing sustainable support models for projects and programs post-implementation. The Project Manager will also support other initiatives and leadership requests as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops and manages cross-departmental projects involving efforts to improve public sector efficiency and process improvement.
- Prepares work plans, budgets and funding recommendations for CAO projects
- Monitors and manages project progress, performance, costs and contracts.
- Designs collaborative processes to facilitate the productivity of project stakeholders for optimal outcomes.
- Ensures adherence to laws, regulations, policies, procedures, codes and guidelines relating to assigned projects.
- Provides technical assistance to staff as needed to support project implementation.
- Serves as project contact point to provide information to relevant stakeholders, including City leadership, community groups, and other institutions.
- Prepares material for updating and commuting to leadership about projects and their development status.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Principles and practices of project management, including budget development and administration, goal setting, program development and implementation.
- Principles and practices of customer support and service
- Strong communication and facilitation skills to support the management of projects and their stakeholders.
- Ability to collaborate effectively and build consensus with a diverse range of people and professions.
- Ability to work as a team to develop a vision, set appropriate goals and strategies, and achieve goals through effective leadership and management.
- Experience in writing and presenting for a wide variety of purposes and audiences.
- Familiarity and understanding of public sector issues and challenges.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to public management required; graduate degree is a plus.
- Public sector experience managing projects that include multiple and diverse stakeholders
OR
- At least six years of experience in municipal government that includes project or program management; project management certifications welcome but not required.

Salary Range: $72,000 - $90,000
