The First Judicial District of Pennsylvania (“FJD”) is the Philadelphia County Court System and is composed of two courts: the Court of Common Pleas and the Municipal Court. The mission of the FJD is to adjudicate cases and provide services to the community within our jurisdiction while ensuring fair, timely, and accessible justice to the people of Philadelphia. The FJD is part of the Unified Judicial System reporting in to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.
Job Description
This is general maintenance work at the advanced training level in several of the building trades. Depending on the skill level, the employee may be assigned individual maintenance projects as well as participating in large scale alteration and/or maintenance projects.
Work is performed under the supervision of a higher-level tradesman or foreman. Assignments are stable in nature and are performed in accordance with instructions and established practices. Work involves some disagreeable aspects under conditions which can be controlled by-precautionary methods or devices.

Essential Functions
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Cuts, shapes, and fastens wood and related materials using power saws, joiners, lathes, planers and other hand and power tools; erects building frames; installs interior and exterior trim; lays flooring and joists and fabricates other wooden articles.
- Prepares surfaces to be painted; removes old paint by use of burners, sandpaper, and scraper; applies sizing, mixes, and matches paints and stains; applies paint to interiors and exteriors of buildings using spray guns and brushes.
- Installs lighting fixtures and other electrical apparatus, tests circuits for continuity and overloading.
- Installs cabling as required.
- Measures floor and ceiling areas and lays ceiling or floor tile.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs related work as required.

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, and tools used in building trades such as carpentry, painting, electricity and occupational hazards and safety.
- Considerable knowledge of precautions involved in the maintenance of building and related facilities and/or in the maintenance of a variety of mechanical equipment.
- Skill in the use and.care of tools and equipment used for the maintenance of buildings.
- Ability, if necessary, to supervise the work of a small group of skilled workers.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to make estimates of time and materials.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and sketches.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.

Qualifications
- Education equivalent to completion of the eighth school grade.
AND
- Two years of general maintenance and repair experience as a helper or apprentice in the building trades. Or any equivalent combination of acceptable training and experience.
- After meeting minimum standards, successful completion of a panel review and interview process.
- Must successfully complete a criminal background investigation.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position.

Salary Range: $40,506 - $44,141 (W10)
