Job Description
Under limited supervision, the Junior Data Architect (JDA) supports information integration and delivery needs for DBHIDS as part of the enterprise data warehouse (EDW) team. The JDA works collaboratively with the Enterprise Data Architect, business stakeholders, data warehouse developers, data management professionals and other analysts to support the design and management of data within DBHIDS. The JDA is responsible for data modeling, database design, data quality assurance, and other tasks that support in the overall operations of the unit and the Enterprise Data Warehouse. As part of the EDW team, the JDA will support the activities of the application development team, enterprise business intelligence (BI) team as well as individual business unit analysts, and work on cross-unit EDW, BI, and master data management (MDM) projects.
The JDA shall be responsible for:
- Assisting with the design and implementation of database solutions to store and retrieve data.
- Support in the development and maintenance of data models and database structures.
- Collaborate with the Enterprise Data Architect and other team members within Enterprise Data Services to understand business requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
- Help in migrating data from legacy systems to new solutions.
- Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with data regulations.
- Monitor and optimize data systems for performance and scalability.
- Document data architecture and maintain data flow diagrams.
- Provide support as needed.
This is a “hands-on” position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills. This JDA role requires a service-oriented mentality, a high sense of ownership of the problems and requests assigned, a focus on managing and resolving issues in alignment with expectations, establishing and maintaining communication with database stakeholders to keep them updated with status of their requests, initiating and performing changes on production systems and proactively escalating any issues that cannot be resolved within the established timeframes. The JDA must be capable of working both independently and collaboratively.
Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in the use of structured query language (SQL).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, and Outlook, and PowerPoint or comparable productivity software.
- Proficiency in the use of various data modeling, data profiling, and general productivity tools and technologies.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills including prioritizing, multi-tasking, and keeping track of information or work in progress while ensuring accuracy.
- Strong time management, problem solving, and project management skills.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of designing, developing, implementing, maintaining, evaluating, and controlling quality assurance, testing, and process improvement activities.
- Knowledge of the concepts of database management, database design, and internal data security mechanisms.
- Knowledge of information technology and familiarity with information design patterns, technology practices, policies, and procedures.
- Knowledge of current principles and best practices of data management within large organizations.
- Ability to design, write, test, troubleshoot and execute SQL scripts and queries.
- Ability to interpret a dimensional model to confirm that it based upon business requirements.
- Ability to communicate effectively and coordinate activities with other information technology staff in the development of test plans and quality assurance processes.
- Ability to communicate effectively between subject matter experts and developers to understand fully business needs and requirements.
- Ability to identify and communicate risks to project timetables, deliverables, or scope.
- Ability to promote and value diversity and understand multicultural and cultural competencies; ability to work effectively with management, technologists, business staff and other stakeholders from different backgrounds.
- Ability to adapt to changing business needs, conditions, and work responsibilities; responds to change with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn new ways to accomplish work activities and objectives.
- Ability to apply professional judgment in complex situations and handle effectively multiple tasks, initiatives and priorities
- Attention to detail and ability to work with large datasets
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree (coursework in Data Analysis, Information Management, Computer Science, or Information Technology preferred).
- 2-3 years of experience in data management, data analysis, or related field.
- Experience with government data systems and understanding of regulatory requirements can be a plus.
Additional Information
Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000
Starting salary to be determined based on experience and qualifications.
