Role Summary:

The Director of Movie Merchandise will play a crucial role in driving growth and
innovation in Cinemark's movie-related merchandise business, with a focus on
expanding our online presence while also supporting in-theater sales. This position will lead our merchandise buying efforts, plan our product assortment, and spearhead the development of new, exciting products that align with our mission to create unforgettable, larger-than-life, immersive experiences. The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of experience in digital retail entertainment buying for major retailers, coupled with knowledge of IP licensing and product development. They will lead a small team dedicated to growing this business segment, collaborating closely with various departments to ensure success.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive multi-year strategy for Cinemark's movie merchandise business, with the focus areas of 1) driving online growth which is a relatively new channel 2) while also supporting & growing successful in-theater sales
  • Lead all merchandise buying activities, including planning and determining product assortment for both online and in-theater channels
  • Collaborate with IP licensors and third-party vendors to source and develop new, innovative products utilizing movie IP
  • Manage and mentor a team of 1-2 people, fostering their growth and development in line with our "Passion for People" value
  • Create and implement long-term plans for the merchandise business, aligning with Cinemark's overall business objectives and our vision to deliver unmatched entertainment and service
  • Partner closely with food & beverage, in-theater operations, marketing, studio partnerships, film and theater design teams to develop compelling products, promotional and placement strategies. Must be an excellent cross functional team player and views project as a Cinemark initiative.with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Oversee the development and production of a wide range of movie-themed products, including but not limited to popcorn tubs, soda vessels, t-shirts, blankets, and collectibles
  • Implement and manage a robust test-and-learn approach to product development and sales strategies, demonstrating a commitment to our "Strive for Excellence" value
  • Analyze sales data, market trends, and customer feedback to inform buying decisions and product development
  • Ensure all merchandise operations adhere to Cinemark's "Safety First" and "Do the Right Thing" values, maintaining high standards of product quality and safety
  • Manage budgets, inventory levels, supply chain, pricing strategy, and financial performance of the merchandise business, aligning with our "Stay Prudent" value
  • Manage and expand vendor base of Licensees and drive for Cinemark exclusive product where it makes sense.
  • Direct and manage in-theater visual merchandising of Movie Merchandise and work with Operations and Theatre Design teams to ensure execution and audits.
  • Present regular updates and performance reports to senior leadership, showcasing the growth and potential of the merchandise business

Responsibilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Merchandising, or a related field; MBA preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in retail buying, merchandising, or product development, preferably with a major retailer
  • Proven track record of driving significant business growth in a retail or e-commerce environment
  • Strong understanding of IP licensing processes and experience in developing products using third-party licenses
  • Excellent leadership skills with experience managing and developing teams
  • Proven experience in cross functional team engagement
  • Deep knowledge of retail operations, including inventory management, pricing strategies, and supply chain logistics
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven decisions
  • Experience with e-commerce platforms and digital marketing strategies
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of an organization
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with vendors, licensors, and internal stakeholders
  • Passion for movies, pop culture, and entertainment merchandise
  • Retail/Entertainment industry experience strongly preferred
