An exciting opportunity has opened at C.H. Robinson, and we are seeking a talented and experienced Manager- Operations to join our team in Colombo. As the Manager of Operations for Global Forwarding, you will lead a team focused on multi-modal freight forwarding operations, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness across the entire process. In this role, you will be responsible for driving productivity, quality, and world-class service by aligning resources, setting role expectations, and monitoring performance metrics. Your focus will be on continuously evaluating and improving operational processes, including optimizing service levels and cycle times to meet business goals and efficiency targets. You will also oversee a team that may include both individual contributors and other operations leaders.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The duties and responsibilities of this position consists of, but are not limited to, the following:

Leadership and Talent Management:

  • Outline employee role accountabilities and expectations; manage performance to ensure productivity, quality, efficiency, and service objectives are achieved
  • Support team development through coaching, feedback, and problem-solving to drive accountability and performance improvements.
  • Communicate operations objectives and performance metrics clearly to the team
  • Cascade communications on office, divisional and organizational initiatives to ensure employee's understanding and alignment
  • Employ strong change management tactics to drive desired behaviours and results.
  • Collaborate with Talent Acquisition to recruit, onboard, and develop a diverse talent pipeline.
  • Manage annual merit and equity programs for assigned team to align compensation with performance results
  • Encourage employee feedback and act on it to foster a culture of trust, inclusivity, and continuous improvement.
  • May participate and/or lead annual budgeting process for operations team

Business and Execution Management/Operations Leadership:

  • Ensure execution strategy aligns with business objectives.
  • Establish a culture focused on quality, process, and efficiency to achieve desired service levels at optimal costs.
  • Continuously evaluate processes for efficiency and effectiveness.

    • Work with peers and leadership to develop and implement operational strategies that deliver quality and where possible, remove friction and waste.
    • Monitor team productivity and quality results and adjust as needed.
    • Ensure service delivery standards are being achieved.
    • Review KPI's to identify opportunities to maximize or improve operational performance
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders and provide updates on operations results, initiatives, or changes.
  • Stay current on business needs, customer expectations, and opportunities for continuous improvement
  • Leverage internal relationships to reinforce a collaborative, high-performance culture and drive process improvements.
  • Leverage technology to improve efficiency; ensure an understanding of available tools and systems to advance work processes and automation. Work with operations leadership and internal stakeholders, including IT, to drive system changes to improve effectiveness and/or efficiency. Present suggestions or improvements to drive better performance
  • Maintain a strong understanding of all C.H. Robinson product offerings and modes"
  • Other duties or responsibilities as assigned according to the team and/or branch specific requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • University/bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum 10 years of logistics operations / global freight forwarding experience
  • 5 years of experience in team management and leadership

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Broad market and industry knowledge with expertise in best practices
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and influence others, fostering a productive and positive environment
  • Collaborative and adaptive leadership style
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to inspire and engage teams
  • Proficiency in financial and operational performance metrics, with the ability to communicate them
  • Proven track record for delivering process/continuous improvement and change management results.
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize projects efficiently and effectively, with strong attention to detail
