The Online Security Technology team is looking for a talented technologist to lead Schwab's authentication platform. The team is responsible for client login. This platform is a standards-based solution that is extendible, highly available, secure, and yet easily usable. This leader will be responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day running of the team along with recruiting, performance management, career growth and supporting our development, technology, and business partners' needs. In addition to this, the leader will be responsible for setting up development best practices, processes, and tools to ensure high priority security initiatives are completed with a sense of urgency.

We are looking for a curious people leader with excellent leadership, technical, program management, and communication skills to guide the team through technology challenges while driving towards target architecture. Our ideal candidate is a servant leader who can lead multiple parallel initiatives - big and small - with attention to detail, manage business partner expectation and is passionate about Security technologies. Lastly, they will also be required to manage resources across disparate locations.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Leading technical teams in delivering highly scalable and reliable applications that meet business budgets/timelines while ensuring alignment to strategic technology vision.
  • Managing day-to-day activities and influence team members to leverage, follow and support agile software development practices; includes the following: Develop and document resourcing roadmaps, budgets and schedules Ensure team is properly engaged, aware of career milestones/path, aware of their role on the team and how it relates to others, lastly aware of their contributions to our overall goals Lead all recruiting activities across the team (create different avenues when necessary).
  • Identifying gaps/risks early and establish mitigation plans (both technically & with regards to resources).
  • Increasing the overall visibility of this team; celebrate/track accomplishments and build relationships with key leaders in other groups.
  • Continually strive for improvements in process, talent acquisition/retention, application time-to-market and quality.
  • Providing hands-on technical coding and mentoring when necessary.

What you have

Required qualifications:

  • BS in Computer Science or related field.
  • People Leader experience: 4+ years of software development management experience with at least 1 year focused on security technologies. This includes coaching and mentoring, working through complex problems, and working with our business partners to deliver an amazing experience for our clients. Additional security experience, a plus.
  • Strong developer background is a must. 10+ years of solid development experience in distributed platform
  • Experience with Java and/or C# Java in a Linux/Windows data center environment.
  • The ability to step in to drive a solution that your engineers can build upon.
  • Experience building complex, highly scalable and low latency application.
  • Ability to understand complex problems easily.
  • Deep knowledge of Authentication protocols, REST and the Web Services space.
  • Knowledge and experience with NoSQL databases (Aerospike, MongoDB are preferred).
  • Experience owning and operating multiple instances of a mission critical service.
  • Experience with Agile development methodology and Test-Driven Development.
  • Experience using telemetry and metrics to drive operational excellence
  • Experience growing high performing engineering teams.
  • Good judgment and the ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Broad knowledge of software engineering: languages, frameworks, techniques, industry trends, etc.
  • Experience with Cloud Technologies - Pivotal Cloud Foundry and GCP, a plus.

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
