The Treasury Capital Markets (TCM) function within Corporate Treasury manages fixed-income investments in several portfolios totaling over $350 billion in balance sheet assets primarily for the benefit of Charles Schwab Corporation and its banking and broker-dealer subsidiaries.
As an individual contributor within the TCM Asset & Liability Management (ALM) Analytics team you will play a key role in the processing of modeling Net Interest Income (NII) generated by the assets and liabilities on the balance sheets of the Corporation and affiliates under specified economic scenarios, for monthly forecasting purposes and for Capital Stress Test scenarios for CCAR and DFAST compliance.

In this role, you will be an individual contributor in the NIR forecasting function with the opportunity to partner with other teams in ALM to continue transforming the forecasting function into a strategic tool to be used to optimize the balance sheet and inform investment decisions, seek learning and development opportunities, and contribute to several ALM and Balance Sheet Management objectives.
The candidate for this function should demonstrate analytical and modeling skills, technical proficiency, a desire to learn and develop new concepts/skills, ability to take initiative to improve analytics and operational processes, as well as develop new ideas.
What you have
- A minimum of 2+ years relevant experience with an emphasis on a mix of the following: ALM, fixed income analytics, modeling, capital markets, market risk or relevant FP&A experience
- Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred. Degrees in Finance or quantitative field preferred
- Strong desire to develop and learn new financial and technical concepts and skills
- Experience with FP&A processes and balance sheet projection software such as PolyPaths ALM or QRM preferred
- Strong knowledge of fixed-income investment portfolio forecasting
- Enthusiasm to work in white space and the ability to create innovative analyses to help drive the strategy for the company
- Ability to multi-task while maintaining composure in a potentially stressful environment
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong attention to detail will be critical to success in this role
- Ability to handle large data sets
What you'll do:
- Build and maintain simulation models used to create Net Interest Revenue (NIR) and evaluate Earnings at Risk, balance sheet sensitivity and other measures
- Accurately model all balance sheet items and suggest improvements where necessary
- Continually seek process improvement and pursue efficiency through automation
- Provide complex financial analysis and modeling support on ad-hoc basis and support development of new ALM reporting, risk dashboards and analytics
- Apply strategic thinking and transform the forecasting process into a strategic tool that can be used to optimize the investment portfolio and balance sheet risk profile
- Generate timely and accurate reporting of the results. Present and communicate scenario results to senior management on a regular basis
- Support ALM strategy by leveraging existing capabilities, tools, and reports, and by developing new capabilities, tools, and reports
- Identify areas of improvement in the operational and analytical/modeling processes and take initiative to improve/automate such processes in collaboration with other ALM units
- Collaborate with key business partners, including capital markets, finance, risk management, model validation, and audit to streamline processes and improve fidelity of the forecast
