The Trading Operations team is responsible for the management of a multi-billion-dollar order book while ensuring our order management practices are in compliance with SEC, FINRA, CFTC, and NFA regulations. You will be working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, across multiple business units, ensuring customer orders are being routed and executed in a timely and efficient manner. Working closely with Technology, the team focuses on enhancing the scalability, efficiency, and performance of the firm's order management system(s). Your responsibilities will include monitoring and evaluating customer orders in equities, options, futures and forex and making critical risk management decisions regarding trade related issues. These decisions can potentially involve large monetary sums, impacting both Schwab and our clients. The team continuously strives for risk mitigation and quality execution. As a client advocate, building and maintaining rapport with external vendors is crucial for sustaining stable, consistent, and mutually beneficial business dealings. By staying abreast of industry developments and market structure changes the team can evaluate potential impacts to the firm and our clients.

Main Accountability 1: Order Routing Management

Examples:

  • Monitor trading systems and market center connectivity to ensure order message traffic is flowing properly.
  • Research and rectify real-time order message exceptions between the order management systems and the market centers.
  • Swiftly identify, diagnose, research, track, and resolve technical issues with market connectivity, trading systems, and/or back-office systems while minimizing client impact and managing the firm's risk exposure.
  • Conduct risk-based scenario analysis to mitigate risk when routing issues or market events occur, to ensure timely and effective resolution is delivered for our clients.

Main Accountability 2: Trading Operations

Examples:

  • Intense focus on understanding each market we trade (equity, option, futures and forex), various order types offered, and our advanced order management systems, to intelligently speak about trading when conversing with vendors and internal business partners.
  • Answer phone, e-mail, and chat inquiries regarding order routing & execution to provide exceptional trade related support for internal business partners and external routing partners.
  • Monitor for and resolve order-related issues identified by internal automated reporting.
  • Utilize trading and systems knowledge, as well as internal and external partnerships, to provide swift resolution of daily trade breaks.
  • Daily and intraday order book management, involving adjustment and cancellation of orders due to corporate actions & dividends, trading restrictions, and securities updates.
  • Fortify strong relationships with market centers by providing regular constructive feedback to improve our clients' trading experience.
  • Act as a client advocate by monitoring and/or resolving any trade related concerns to ensure clients are receiving the best execution possible.
  • Exercise independent decision-making ability to investigate and resolve order routing and execution related problems.

Main Accountability 3: Regulatory Compliance

Examples:

  • Promote enhancements to processes, tools, and architecture based on industry practices and innovations.
  • Assist management and compliance in answering procedural questions, order routing and execution concerns, or other trade related inquiries.
  • Research and resolve trading exceptions to ensure best execution and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure that periodic tests of policies and procedures are conducted.
  • Work with business partners on trading issues and develop creative solutions.

What you have

To ensure that we fulfill our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.

Required Qualifications

  • 4-year College Degree or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of Options, Futures, and Forex trading experience
  • 5-10+ years total experience
  • Active and valid FINRA Series 7, 63 and 57 (These may be obtained within 90 days under a condition of employment)
  • Excellent knowledge of the financial services industry and solid understanding of trading rules and regulations.
  • Thorough understanding of equities, options, futures and forex market structure.
  • Ability to quickly and efficiently adjust to changes in fast paced environment without losing focus.
  • Strong communicator (written and verbal), able to effectively interact and coordinate with other departments and business units.
  • Self-motivated and client driven.
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills to scope and frame problems.
  • Displays excellent judgment to propose effective, business driven solutions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills to effectively educate and coach teammates and business partners.
  • Military education or experience may be considered in lieu of civilian requirements listed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active and valid FINRA Series 24, 4, 3 and 34
